I think you can plan on a full day to go to Hana & back.

My BF's daughter and her husband did the shark encounter on Oahu and they liked it. You couldn't pay me enough to do it, though! Scary stuff.

The 4th of July is a big deal on all the islands and there will be fireworks just about anywhere you are so have fun.

I would book the tours once you arrive - take advantage of the coupon books that are everywhere over there - there are coupons for the many tours in those so you may save some cash. If you want to book in advance, a friend of ours has an event company that books tours online - Hawaiianevents.com - check it out and decide what you want to do.

As far as what to do on Oahu (I haven't been to the other islands in a while) - there's a lot there. There are tours through the Iolani Palace, the Bishop Museum, etc, of course the Arizona, Mighty Mo & Bowfin submarine. Be sure to go up to the North Shore and check out the rest of the island - don't just stay in Waikiki. I'm sure Dusty will post at some point and I can't compete with the info he will give you about what to do on Oahu. Just don't overbook yourself - Hawaii is laid back and you should be too - relax and enjoy the surroundings and the people.
