Hawaii2004: I just returned from Maui 3 weeks ago and had the chance to tour the brand new Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas and all I can say is WOW! Keep in mind this is a different property entirely from the Westin hotel, about 2 miles apart. I agree with the others who said the hotel was not so great. But the timeshare rooms and grounds are gorgeous and I would definitely recommend it to you. Also, as far as nightlife, I was in Kauai in 2001 and it was definitely not for me. I am a city girl who likes seclusion and serenity -- but want the option to drive a ways into some action 1-2 nights during my stay. It seemed that the whole island of Kauai shut down at 8:00 p.m.!! And it is far, far too rainy for me. Beautiful to look at, but slooooow. Which is fine if that's your cup of tea! Maui is very nice, definitely better than Kauai IMHO. But, I have to admit that my favorite island of the 3 I've been to is Oahu. We own a TS at Ko'Olina - very slow, serene and beautiful, and yet we can drive for 30 min and have a ton of things to do. I love it. Congratulations on your marriage, and I hope you love Hawaii as much as we do!

We just booked our honeymoon today and we considered a lot of the same things you are considering. We are going Aug 15-29th. We booked the Princeville for Kauai (5 nights) and The Lodge and Koele on Lanai (2 nights) and Four Seasons Maui (6 nights). I have heard great things about the Princeville. There is some special window in the rooms too. We used starwood points for one of the nights but it seems very easy to use them. You can either book a room with the points (usually get the lowest category of room) or can use the points to upgrade a room but then you cant do that till 5 days before you check in. From what I've read on these posts, a lot of honeymooners got upgraded anyway. We booked the ferry from Maui to Lanai (it departs at 12:45, takes about 45 minutes and costs about $25). This saves a lot of time (and money) since to fly from Maui to Lanai you'd have to fly to HNL first and then take a second flight to LNY.
