Help planning a 4 week trip around west coast of USA

Just want to thank everyone who has given me some advice !!!
We have changed alot of our trip based on what your helpful hints are. Ill prob post afew more questions closer to the time.

Four weeks is a lot of time. If it were me, I would go all the way from Seattle, maybe even Vancouver, to San Diego along the coast and then over to Vegas. There is so much variety along the way. You could arrange for hotels in the bigger cities but between Portland and SF you could stop whereever the wind takes you.
