Trying to choose a hotel for mid-April trip w/ 10-yea-old. Want to stay on Strip. Casino less important, as I don't gamble. Looking at Mandalay Bay, primarily due to pool and cheapovegas.com reviews, but concerned about it being at the South end - Is this going to be too far to walk to the Sands Ave intersection? (We are very comfortable w/ NYC walking 10 blocks at a pop). Any other hotel suggestions?

It appears to be about 2.5-3 miles between Mandalay Bay and Sands Expo Center. Of course, cabs are plentiful, and you could walk to MGM Grand (or even take the tram from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur then walk) and ride the monorail from there. There are also busses that go up and down the strip, and a trolley.

If you want to be more central, Flamingo has a nice pool with live flamingos and penguins around. It's not a luxury hotel like Mandalay Bay is, but it's a serviceable budget hotel with a nice pool.

We went when my daughter was 11 and she loved the pool at the Flamingo. It is also more centrally located than the Mandalay.

Flamingo even has various pools, one ment with slide, another for small children, large tropical for all etc. Excellent central location.

Thanks so much - espec the link, jlm_mi - that was exactly what I was needing. Think we will skip the Mandalay - location is important!! May also look at Caesar's Palace, as it was recommended by VegasKids website - anyone have thoughts about it???

The Forum Shoppes at Caesar's would be popular with the kid...neat indoor mall with a cool little aquarium and kid-friendly restaurants. I think that Caesar's has gotten rid of some of their kid-friendly attractions such as arcade & 3D rides however.

A 10 yr old would probably love Treasure Island and it is right there by Sands. April might already be sold out though as it is a big conventions month. Flamingo, Mirage would be other good choices.

We stayed at Caesar's in May, and it is NOT a kid-friendly place at all! Most of their restaurants have gone very upscale and even the food court is not geared towards kids. The pool has no slides or anything, just fountains, and part of the pool area is topless.

Check out Monte Carlo. They have a wave pool and a lazy river, and a more family-friendly food court.

I would pick Monte Carlo, NT NY or Excalibur due to kid friendly features and more central location than Mandalay Bay. Although, from Mandalay to Excalibur via tram that another poster mentioned, which puts you more in the center of South Strip.

I would not take a 10 yr. old kid to Caeser's, it is not a kid-friendly hotel in my opinion. The Flamingo has a great pool, I'd look into that hotel. Location is great too. Monte Carlo is also more family friendly.
