Help Others with Extra Ziploc Bags
To all the savvy Fodors travellers - You know all about the new rules on liquids in carry-ons and have your zip-loc bag filled and ready to toss in the bin at security. But you'd be surprised at the number of people who aren't ready. You can't help them all. But stick a few extra ziploc bags in your carry-on and help out a fellow traveller faced with tossing toothpaste, makeup, etc. You may even find yourself in a trip report! (I can see it now - - - There I was, arguing with the TSA employee about the one bottle of shampoo in my bag when a kind stranger handed me a ziploc bag. It was the highlight of my trip.)

This is a great idea for an "act of random kindness" :)

Some airlines (Continental, for one) provide the bags at no cost to their passengers. Others (American) have them available for purchase.

Pity the fool security worker who tries to take away my toothpaste because it's not in a ziploc bag!
The days of Republican nonsense ruling the skies are OVER, thank goodness! P.S. Did Halliburton own half of the ziploc company, too??? |
So what are the current rules domestically? Traveling on Southwest, can we bring food with us prepared at home?
|
You can bring food but NO: yogurt, pudding, jello etc.
Fruit, nuts, cookies, cheese, crackers, sandwiches are ok. You cannot bring water or any other drinks, but can buy them after you pass through security. Hope this helps... Debi |
Thanks Debi.

I'm currently sitting in the NW club at DTW and thought this was an interesting thread. I packed, put my toothpaste, lotion, etc...in a plastic bag - threw it in my carry on and zipped through security.
I didn't take it out of my carry on (forgot)- i went through all this trouble putting everything in the ziplocks and no one asked to see them! I thought you had to take the ziplock out and put it in the bin, maybe they could see it in my carry one and were satisfied. Just thought I'd pass this info along.... |
Keymom or others, I can't keep up...was this in place a couple of weeks ago?
I wish I would have read this thread earlier. I'm assuming a clear zippered travel bag will also be okay (although now I'm sure my husband will not be pleased that it has some pink flowers on it). |
I believe it must be a 1 quart ziplock bag only, no cosmetics bags even if see through. This has been in places since last week of Sept.

mclaurie -- I see they now allow yogurt, jello, pudding in less than 3 oz. package. Sorry!

Thanks Debi. Well, he's been lucky then because he's taken 4 trips since that time and hasn't had a problem...yet.
Thanks again. |
I fly a lot and I find the rules are not consistently applied (or perhaps not consistently understood in the same manner by all agents). It's that one time that you forget to have the ziploc you'll be searched. Say goodbye to the toothpaste - unless I'm in line behind you with my extra ziploc bags!

LOL. Yes, keymom, my DH would then be very fortunate indeed. :)

Topping for everyone packing for Thanksgiving travel. Stick a few extra ziplocs in your carry-on and give someone a reason to say thanks. I handed out 3 on my trip last week....
|
Other ways to make a hit with fellow travelers is to carry packets of tissues and hand sanitizers to offer in instances where they are likely to elicit praise for thoughtfulness.
