Help on time of year when hotels are reasonable in Las Vegas

We visited Las Vegas in September last year and stayed in Bally's for something like $50+ per night. On our recommendation, friends want to spend a week in Las Vegas in January next(2nd or 3rd week)but are finding accommodation much more expensive. Is January high season there, or will it get more reasonable later in the month?

I think this is more economics than high-low season.... Las Vegas was hit hard by the fallout of 9/11 and the bad economy. The hotel/casinos responded by reducing the prices of their rooms to lure people back to "The Strip". They did a good job. Now they are restoring the pre-9/11 room prices. Also, with people not making as many "overseas" vacations this year, Vegas becomes more attractive. Simple supply and demand. JMHO

January has 2 HUGE conventions.....CES Jan 8-11 and International Builders Jan 19-22.And a few in between. Each will attract upwards of 125,000 attendees/exhibitors.Other than that, not much going on in LV..so the hotel rates are adjusted accordingly.

Perhaps they're checking weekend nights which are triple the rates of Sunday-Thursday which is probably when you were there.

Tell them to check the "special promotions" section of the Mirage, Treasure Island and Bally's websites beginning in, say, August or so for January specials.

If there is a Convention, Rodeo, Nascar or other event the price is higher than a none event weekday. Weekends are higher than Sunday thru Thursday.

The cheapest month is December, except for one week where I think it's Rodeo finals. Other than that, dirt cheap especially around XMAS. Late January will be high because of Super Bowl. March is high because of NCAA.

We've visited Las Vegas during various months & seasons - always gotten great rates, right up to and including first week of April, when we paid $55 a (week) night at Ballys. Shop around & avoid convention weeks.

forget january as that's high season. christmas week is usually very cheap, but also very busy. first week in august and first week in sept ((labor day) also historically very cheap.

When we were there a week or so before Christmas, there was a published article that indicated those 10 days or so after the rodeo finals, and before Christmas, was/were the slowest of the year. That's why we got 3 nights at the Rio for $160 (mid-week.)
