HELP!!! On Lodging in BLACK HILLS, S.D.

I am being challenged! I have been searching for an out of the way nice place to stay for a couple of days next wkend in the Black Hills....maybe centrally located....
Never been there before and have about 3 days to make the rounds.
We do not want to stay where everyone stays!
Any ideas?

I'm not sure it would entirely fit the bill for what you are looking for, but you could make a "provisional" reservation here and then cancel out if you find something superior:

www.kellyinns.com

The one I'm thinking of (and I've stayed there several times) is in Spearfish -- a very nice setting. Yes, it is a chain, so it's neither quaint nor unique. But it is clean, comfortable and reliable with at least a few amenities. I see the rack rate online is $85/night for next weekend. Perhaps you could do better by calling the hotel directly; you certainly can't do worse. Spearfish is a nice place to work from and this an absolutely beautiful time of year to be in the Black Hills. Happy Trails! :o)

We stayed at the Strutton Inn Bed & Breakfast in Custer, S.D. It's on the far western side of town. The hosts are Denise & Cary Strutton. Wonderful people, accomodations, & breakfasts. They even put out some evening refreshments at the day's end. Great place & very reasonable cost.
