HELP! New Orleans Lodging????

We (husband and I) have never been to New Orleans...want to take advantage of the Dec. rates.
Looking for a good location, safe walking.....nice place to stay for a couple of nites...
It seems that everyone is offering a good rate so there would be many choices.
But, which one...

Do a text search on New Orleans and you will probably find great information. Remember, the date of your trip dictates prices because New Orleans is a convention city. If your flexible, check several dates. Yes, there are some great prices and great places to stay in New Orleans. Let us know more!! My suggestion is to stay in the Frech Quarter or close to it in the Central Business District. Our favorite city to visit. Enjoy.

We really like the Ramada Inn on Bourbon. It has noisy, fun rooms with balconies facing Bourbon Street, or much quieter ones facing the pool. It's very centrally located on Bourbon and although most people wouldn't consider it the "cream of the crop", we've stayed there 5 out of the last 6 years and are planning on coming back in 2002. Enjoy the city!

My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Pere Marquette (a Marriott) just outside the French Quarter. It just opened a month ago. The location was perfect -- easy walking distance to the French Quarter. It was quiet, nice atmosphere.

We just got back from the BigEasy and had a great time at the Dauphine Orleans. Check out the website and stay in a room for two in the courtyard area. We had a family of 4 so we stayed in the main bldg. Say Hello to Kareem (bellman)--he knows how to get you where you want to go and can arrange for the courtesy van to take you anywhere! Easy walking distance to anywhere in the FQ (best shopping is on Rue Royal!). Enjoy!!

In October, we stayed at The Queen and Crescent, one of what is being called a 'boutiquette' hotel. Very European in feel. Newly remodeled. Wonderful accommodations about 3 blocks from the French Quarter. Walking distance to the waterfront. Safe walking distance, I should add. Check their website and ask for the internet rate, their best.

The Dauphine Orleans is great. One block from Bourbon - but in a very quiet area. Nice (but plain) rooms with nice terry cloth robes and free breakfast every morning. Also, it has quite a history. Have fun.

Several years ago, we stayed at the Rue Royal Inn (obviously on Royal Street!).
They now have a website. It is a renovated townhouse complex with a courtyard. Great location.

My family went in September for my brothers suprise birthday. We stayed at the Marriott on Canal. Great Location. Next door to the mall and across the street from the casino. The next time we go back we will either stay there or the La Meriedan (just across the street) I also made my reservations through Expedia.com.
