Help! Need romantic B&B ideas in Carmel or Monterey

I'm trying to plan a romantic 1st Anniversary trip for my wife and she loves the Carmel/Monterey area. Can anyone recommend a romantic Bed and Breakfast, or another great place to stay?
Thanks so much, JD

Vagabonds House is right in town in Carmel and rated one of the top B&Bs on the west coast for many years. Quiet, private, charming, courtyard entrance to the rooms past a waterfall. Very special. Only a block away is an incredibly romantic restaurant, Casanova, with consistently outstanding food.

We LOVED the Tickle Pink Inn... clifftop, magnificent views, huge lanai, jacuzzi tubs, robes... we stayed here 5 nights in October 2003. We enjoyed the location in Carmel Highlands, just out of town and on the edge of Big Sur. The views are lovely, the sunsets.... ahhh... and very romantic. They serve a daily continental breakfast and in the afternoon a wine & cheese reception. Many times we would skip dinner as we enjoyed the reception so much, and we would just go up and enjoy the privacy of our room, the lanai, the baths... the sunset. Also, right next door is the Highlands Inn w/ 2 very good restaurants. If you look into Tickle Pink Inn, ask for room 31... best on the property.

The two inns above are in different price categories, with Tickle Pink much more expensive. I haven't stayed at Tickle Pink, but know its location and that it has a world-class view. I have always heard that it is outstanding. It's not in walking distance of the town, however.

I have stayed at Vagabond's House, and agree with xbex that it is very romantic and quite special. It is very convenient to the center of Carmel despite a secluded feel. The central courtyard is very wooded and full of flowers, and is one of the best examples of Carmel quaint. The upper story rooms have sort of a treehouse feel. They brought an excellent, extensive Continental breakfast to the room. I highly recommend it. Check out their vagabondshouseinn.com web site for views and info.

Topping for another poster who asked about Vagabond's House.

The Tickle Pink Inn is very nice, we really enjoyed it. I'll also second Casanova which is very good. :)

We recently stayed at La Playa and it was very romantic and in a nice quiet residential area, walking distance to a gorgeous stretch of beach there. This is not a B&B, but a full resort type place with a garden spa, heated pool, restaurant (Terrace Grill) turndown service at night with chocolates on the pillows and beautiful grounds with flower gardens that were amazing.

We booked under the wine country package and a bottle of Morgan Pinot Noir was delivered to our room with a small bouquet of fresh flowers. We will definitely return and it was very nice being able to walk right down to the beach. Happy Anniversary! ***kim*** ((f))

We have stayed at the Cobblestone Inn (very romantic, wonderful service, & right in the village of Carmel). Also, have stayed at the LaPlaya. More expensive, probably not quite as good of service as the Cobblestone had. But our favorite place, would be the Seven Gables. Stayed there many times on our anniversary, and still is our very favorite B&B. It is located in Pacific Grove, in between Monterey and Carmel. Stayed in rooms with stained glass windows, beautiful views of the surf, and we could hear the surf at night. Wonderful service, so memorable!

Check out the Green Gables Inn in Pacific Grove. Lovely old inn, great breakfasts, right on the coast. There are rooms in the main house and the carriage house also has rooms. Not as quaint as the main house, but much larger and have fireplaces. Green Gables is part of the Four Sisters Chain.

The Carriage House Inn in Carmel is lovely and quite romantic, especially if you get one of the upstairs bedrooms with the window seats overlooking the trees and the street below.
