HELP! Need input on hotels!! San Diego
 

Traveling with the family over Xmas. . .Coronado or Mission Point or La Jolla or Gaslight. .confusion. . prefer a 3to 4 star type. Has anyone stayed at Bahia or Catamaran?

I would choose Coronado or La Jolla; nice beaches,walking distance to shops/restaurants. Coronado Island Marriott Resort is a nice hotel; the decoration looks warm and has nice view of SD downtown skyline at night.

Bahia & Catamaran both are resort/hotels in Mission Bay area. This comunity is somewhat different fr. La Jolla & Coronado. The obvious physical difference is Coronado & La Jolla are beach areas and Mission Bay is the bay area. I've been in both hotels for events but did not stay there. My preference would be the Catamaran. I used to stay 2 block fr. the bay and walked by the hotel every week; their bay front rooms look nice. The ball room at the Bahia is nicer than that @ the Catamaran.

Gas Lamp area is in downtown and lively after 9PM, especially on the weekend. It's a place if you like to party. Fifth ave is restaurant row.

I'd highly recommend La Jolla - don't know your budget but I would suggest The Grande Colonial (www.thegrandecolonial.com) or the La Valencia (more expensive). Both are in La jolla proper-walking distance to many shops, restaurants. La Jolla cove is a stone's throw (or 2 minute walk down a hill - 1 block). I'm sure they have xmas specials. The Grande Colonial decorates beautifully for the holidays.

dew1990 - I think you posted this question twice - also under coronado/mission point. It is less confusing if you only ask the question once.

In your previous thread, I suggested Coronado over Mission Bay. You were asking about Loew's Coronado. You could also look at other hotels in Coronado such as the Marriott. I love La Jolla but I think your children (which you didn't mention in this post) would like Coronado or Mission Bay better.
If you did decide to stay in Mission bay Kayla's recommendation of the Catamaran is the best one. Definitely check out Coronado more. The Hotel Del is beautiful at Christmas and the Lambs Players puts on several Christmas shows. One of their productions (which sells out quickly) is a dinner/show at the Hotel Del Coronado. It is pretty pricey but something I always wanted to do.

We stayed in LaJolla at the SeaLodge (avoid this hotel, nothing special about it, and old rooms). LaJolla was an awesome area, but after going over to Coronado for the afternoon- we should have stayed there!
