Help: Need info on Vegas
 

Can anyone tell me what the weather in Vegas is like during the Christmas season? <BR>Also would like to know where you get more bang for your bucks as far as a good place to stay. Should me and my travel companion just show up and haggle over the price of a room on sight, or should we book in advance? <BR>Is there a good package deal from New York with one of the travel agents or should I handle it myself? Thanks in advance.

Jim, I already answered this for you once but here goes again. <BR> <BR>Las Vegas is typically pretty chilly around christmas. The temps will generally be in the 50's during the day and very cool at night. <BR> <BR>If you are planning on staying the week between Christmas and New Years then you must book your rooms ahead of time. That is one of the busiest times of the year with the crowds starting to arrive around the 28th. If you will be leaving Las Vegas before the 28th then it will be pretty quiet and you will have no trouble getting accomodations. It is still advisable to book your rooms first. <BR>

Book in advance -- use the internet sites, especially, www.lasvegas.com. I got a night at the Stratosphere for $19 double (although not available for all nights at this price -- discounted price on the hotel reservation line for the same December date was $79) Reserved through www.travelscape.com. All hotels charge higher rates on the weekend. Air package deals can snag you air and hotel for the same as air alone. It may take some research time, but you can save big bucks by advance planning.

Lucky you, I just did major research as I am also going to vegas. Best deals right now is at www.swvacations.com. Since I am going alone. I booked four nights including a sat night at the Rio-all suites casino hotel. off the strip by a mile but highly regarded. The price for me alone was only $20/night. I do not know the price for two people, if you do this you may want to tell them only one person to get this price. I got the hotel price using americawestvacations.com I then booked my flight through www.southwest.com for $153 roundtrip <BR> <BR>Good luck.

I was in Vegas over Labor Day weekend for the first time. We stayed at Bally's which is right in the middle of the strip. You can walk to any other casino easily from there. Nice room and great service.

Wow Anthony! That list was very helpful! Could you or anyone else add: can you get these prices on-line or by phone (I noticed you listed both)? I have been searching and calling and have been getting much higher prices. Am I missing something? (We'll be in Vegas late Nov early Dec)....have fun Jim!

If you can tweak your dates you might find better prices. There is a convention in town usually the very first week of December, and I think that the National Rodeo is there as well. The 2 weeks directly before Christmas usually have the best bargain room deals of the year. <BR>Book something now if you're worried, but I would check back early November and re-book at the special rates that pop up. Just make sure that your first reservation is cancelled once you find something better.

the weather in vegas around xmas will be very cool so take a jacket. there is also a chance that it will be windy, and if it is windy, expect it to feel like its in the low 40s. as for rooms, you should book in advance and not wait to haggle...that won't really get you a cheaper room. the thing that may get you a cheaper room tho is as soon as you get to your hotel, get a casino card. this will keep track of the time and money you spend gambling. if you spend a lot of time in one casino and spend a lot of time gambling the pts will rack up quick on your card and they may reduce the rate of your room or they might even comp you.

Thanks Sally, for the complement - Joesource deserves one to for clarifying Dec. hotel rates in LV - he is right on the nose with his info.<BR>Funny, I actually spent Christmas 2001 in LV, along with my parents and my sister and her family. <BR>My advice from '00 still stands, although I would now add Priceline.com as another way for great prices on LV rms. On the Christmas '01 trip , we had a combo stay between comped rms @ Harrahs, to $79/nt @ The Venetian(booked through the casino's website). That was a great rate at a great hotel! <BR>using Priceline for my family, I got great rates at The Rio @$34/nt,Embassy Suites @$30, and Doubletree Airport @ $24 all through Priceline. Also booked the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas @ $54, through Priceline.<BR>The online Priceline forun, www.biddingfortravel.com, is a must for anyone contemplating a bid through Priceline.<BR>Bottomline, I don't think one should reserve in advance for a Christmastime stay - I would wait until the casinos release their holiday rates.
