Help me remember the name of this Kauai waterfall!!!
Everyone-I have a super picture of a waterfall on Kauai that I took about 4 years ago. I am trying my hardest to recall the name of the waterfall or of the park it was in. We were driving up to Kapaa from Poipu. We had already gone though Lihue and made the left turn onto the highway that runs parallel to the ocean toward Kapaa. Just before the "Coconut Marketplace" area there was a cutoff to the left. We passed the old CocoPalms where Elvis filmed the wedding scenes from Blue Hawaii. We followed this road a little and there was a park/lookout . This is where I took the picture. If you crossed the road and looked down over the bridge, you could see a little hut like village that was part of some attraction or whatever. I think maybe there was Smith's Luau in the area. Can anyone help? I am entering the photo into a contest and would really like to correctly identify it. Thanks for any input.

Aloha, Alohaman! The fall you're talking about is either Wailua Falls (that's the twin falls seen at the beginning of the old Fantasy Island TV show), or it's Opakea'a Falls (wider waterfall, means "shrimp falls") Either one of those names ring a bell???

Hi Alohamom,
I believe the falls you are speaking of is 'Opaeka'a Falls. Right across from the lookout to these falls is another lookout called Wailua River Lookout...I remember seeing smoke and thinking that is probably where Smith's luau was.
Good luck with your entry.

The directions you indicate puts you near Fern Grotto and Smith's Luau, just off the Wailua River. However I don't think it's Wailua Falls, because the road to it is from downtown Lihue and the road dead ends at the falls. And standing on the ridge looking into Wailua Falls and the pit into which it falls, I find it hard to believe you would see it so easily from elsewhere.
Oh, ho
25 days to go and I'll take a look for myself, again.
