Thanks for helping me with your ideas and suggestions, here is my final 2 weeks itinerary in Deember:
18 arriving in LA (6 nights)
24 San Diego (4 nights)
28 Joshua tree NP (1 night)
29 Las Vegas (2 nights)
31 (Death Valley (1 night)
1/1 back to LV
2/1 back to the UK !!!!

I have booked a Christmas lunch at the DEl hotel and was looking for suggestions for an early dinner on the 24th, any ideas, considering we have 2 young children?
Also, Any not to miss places to eat in LA? Ideally, great food in not too formal restaurants. Any suggestions will be very welcome!

Here's an interesting thread on dining options in L.A., but you MUST have a good map (or GPS) and stick to areas near your target sightseeing or your lodging. Do you have an address for the lodging?

Welcome to Calif, Angelica. While in Vegas, I am sure your kids, and you also, I might add, will be thrilled with the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.

It is geared to the kids, with many exhibits on the desert environment. Our granddaughter (10), who lives in Vegas, has been thrilled with it and has been going frequently for years. In fact this summer she attended a daily program for one week. She learned tons of stuff about the wildlife of the desert. There are many interactive exhibits, a cafe, and generally good fun for kids. It is easy to get to, with lots of parking. They'll love it.
