Melissa -- Kapena's new one is "Keys of Love"...and was appropriately released just in time for Valentine's Day! Not Hawaiian, but who cares when it's Kapena????

Hey, auntie, in addition to Keys of Love which other cd would you recommend (Kapena or others) that are more island contemp instead of Hawaiian?

Is he playing with Mike Kaawa? If so, you are in for quite a show.

I think he is, IAMQ! I know this will kill you and I truly don't mean to offend anyone.. but hawaiian music just isn't my thing and I haven't been looking forward to it much. Your comments are making me feel better! If he's such an amazing musician, I can appreciate him!

His guitar playing blew my socks off, especially when he dueted with Mike Kawaa. Led played about 30 minutes on his own and then Mike Kawaa came out and they dueted on all sorts of cool things. Post back after the show and let us know how you liked it...or not.

iamq!!

It was incredible... I'm a fan! Led's sister opened the show.. just did about four songs and she was cute and really . The Led played on his for for a few songs, like you thought... and then out came Mike They were fantastic... and Mike Sister in law danced hula for a few songs too! The venue was small, only about 50 people and we wre right in the front... it was a wonderful evening!

They have a new CD they were selling called 'Forces of Nature" and I think you'll want one!

Na Leo Pilimehana

By the way, inmy earlier post about Kapena I should have had a disclaimer.

I like Kapena & think they are one of Hawaii's best groups.

But I should have added that my daughter is married to a younger brother of two of the founding members of Kapena.

The "old Kapena" really rocked -- and were truly Hawaii's all-time favorite party band! When the Tatofi brothers left the group, the energy seemed to dissolve, too. Now that Kelly Boy has his kids involved, Kapena has a new and different sound. To hear the "old Kapena", pick up their "Kapena Collection" CD.

iceeu2: other island contemporary musicians I can recommend are Hawaiian Style Band, Robi Kahakalau, Barefoot Natives, Willie K, Brothers Cazimero, Olomana, Cecilio & Kapono, Ka`au Crater Boys, Keahiwai, Opihi Pickers, Peter Moon Band, Na Leo Pilimehana, Sean Na`auao, Palolo, Sudden Rush (they rap, in Hawaiian!). And the lush, languid, melt-in-your-ears music of Teresa Bright.

My brother-in-law just sent us a slideshow of his engagement pictures set to a very nice Hawaiian version of Lionel Richie's "Stuck on You." Anyone know who performed it, by any chance?

Everyone so far is right, but I don't think anyone's mentioned Doug and Sandy McMaster, www.hawaiianslackkeyguitar.com. They live and play their music in Hanalei, every Friday and Sunday at the Community Center. Their music is glorious, and their small, personal concerts are never-to-be-forgotten events.

We received our Kapena cd, "Keys of Love", and it is wonderful. We both have always loved George Strait's version of "I Cross My Heart", and now that we have heard Kapena's version, we love it equally as much.

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was an amazing singer. Too bad he died I believe from a heart problem (he was huge). Great stuff, be sure to check it out on Itunes. Google him & you'll pull up some CD covers with pix of him.
