Help me pick a hotel in St. Louis
 

Between these four hotels, which would you pick: Regal Riverfront, Mayfair, Drury Plaza, <BR>Radisson Downtown? If anyone has an experience to relate with any of these downtown hotels or would like to suggest any other downtown hotel, I would appreciate it. <BR>This is for a long weekend stay in June. We might be 4 adults and plan to see a couple of games at Busch Stadium, the zoo, and also may hit Six Flags before heading home to Chicago. <BR>Thanks!

The rooms at the Regal Riverfront are average at best, but the location if you are going to the game will offset this. Also consider the Marriott downtown. The only Drury I have stayed at is adjacent to Union Station, and it was very nice.

You might consider Adam's Mark...they're not as good as they used to be but they're still good

Many years ago I stayed at the Daniele Hotel in Clayton. As I remember it was extremely nice. Sounds like you will have a car if you are headed for Six Flags. St. Louis was easy to get around (i.e. staying in Clayton would not be a hardship location for access to most areas around St. Louis).

Thanks all, you've helped me. The Regal Riverfront may be offering a weekend package that will be hard to resist, although it does incur an average parking fee. I did consider Clayton and another suburb but realize that it will be better both time and cost wise to just park the car once or twice. We may go to 2 games and see a few other sights in that exact area so it will probably be the Regal Riverfront, Drury Plaza which is only 2 blocks from the stadium but also pricier, or the Marriott. Anyone know how close the Marriott is to Busch Stadium or what the rooms are like at Drury Plaza? The parking fee per day there is large and might be a factor as we have to take two cars as we are going on to different locations afterwards. THANKS AGAIN!

As a St. Louis resident here are my recomendations: <BR> <BR>Drury Plaza (4th and Market)-Top Choice. Very nice hotel and rooms. Only about a year old. Had friends recently stay there and they loved it. Two blocks from stadium. <BR> <BR>Marriott. Great location right across the street from the stadium. OK rooms. However it is where most of the baseball crowd from out of town stays. Check in/out can take a while when everyone decides to arrive/leave at the same time. <BR> <BR>Regal Riverfront. 2 blocks from stadium and is the other main hotel for baseball out-of-towners. Ask for a room in the new tower: old tower rooms are smaller. <BR> <BR>Radisson. Only a couple of years since remodeled-looks nice. Never known anyone who has stayed there though. About 4 blocks from Busch stadium. <BR> <BR>Mayfair. For baseball I'd skip unless you get a great deal. About 7 or 8 blocks from the stadium. Decent rooms. However they are building a new 1000+ room convention hotel right next door and things are a mess. Much better location for football at the Dome. <BR> <BR>If you are coming in town for Cubs vs Cards games make the reservations NOW. Things get very crazy on those weekends.

Went to St. Louis for long weekend last summerto see two baseball games with boyfriend. We stayed at Radisson which is 3 or 4 blocks to Busch Stadium. We really loved it. These are not hotel rooms as this is a completely rehabbed apartment building. The rooms are suites with a separate living room. we got a great rate on the internetand were super satisfied though parking was an expense, this will be with any downtown hotel in any city! Walked to a waterfront area called Cleve's Point where there was lots of restaurants, bars, ond outdoor activities at night about two blocks from hotel in opposite direction, i highly reccomend it!

Dear Dave, THANKS. You have answered everything I needed to know. We will either stay at Drury Plaza or Regal Riverfront. I'm leaning toward the <BR>Drury and may splurge a little more this time. It's for the SOX/ CARDS series in June. My son went to school in Carbondale and has been a Cards fan for several years. This is about his 6th or 7th trip to St. Louis for baseball and to see friends. He will be escorting us around the downtown area and to some of his favorite spots. He loves the city of St.Louis. I have been a Sox fan since before I heard the siren go off for their win in 1959. We go to 2 or 3 ballparks a year and hope to get to Toronto this year also. I really appreciate your specific answers. THANKS!

Thanks abe! The games are day and late afternoon times and we will have a night to try some places at Cleve's Point, for sure.

That's Laclede's Landing, not Cleve's Point.

Laclede's Landing is a nice area to make a quick visit. There is a Planet Hollywood and Spagehti(sp?) Factory, but you can do better. The Landing is mostly bars that cater to a very young crowd. If you're over 25, you'll feel old. Then again the President Casino recently moved up the river to the Landing and that has helped change things a little. <BR> <BR>A better bet is the Soulard neighborhood which is about a mile south of downtown and just north of the Anheuser-Busch brewery. It's a better mix of all ages/types of people. Some places to check in Soulard: <BR>McGurks: fun Irish pub. Good food. Authentic Irish music and an outdoor patio if the weather is nice. <BR>Tucker's Place: good/inexpensive steaks. <BR>1860 Hardshell Cafe: Blues music. <BR> <BR>If you need good Italian food either try Zia's which is on "The Hill" or Charlie Gittos downtown. <BR> <BR>Granted it's not a Cubs weekend, but the Sox are still enough of a draw. Don't wait on the reservations. Good choice to come when the Sox are in town because Cubs/Cards weekends can be pretty rough in St. Louis. The bars have to hire extra bouncers to handle the fights between the fans. Don't worry though, any visits from other midwest teams are now where as bad.

Thanks again, dave! I think we will try Tuckers and the blues bar too. I'll make the reservations this weekend after double checking dates with the others- I won't wait. Some of the other ball parks have numerous "alcohol" fights near the parks or in the parks. Milwaukee's old stadium had huge tail- gating crowds and this is the only place where we saw evidence of a large amount of this. They tried to end all alcohol sales after the 5th inning there. I did see a few fights at Wrigley a couple of years ago. Alcohol related also. We tend to stay away from the bars after all baseball games. THANKS! I'm really looking forward to seeing your city again as I haven't been there in about 22 years.

St. Louis Westin opened just two days ago (Thursday, March 8). <BR> <BR>It's across the street from Busch Stadium in several old warehouses. I checked the Westin site and rooms start at $159 per night, but I'm sure you can get a better deal. <BR> <BR>Jeff

<BR>Definitely pick Drury over Regal RiverFront. Also agree with above message - try to get a deal at the new Westin in Cupples Warehouse across from the stadium. Westin and Sheraton are renovating old warehouses and they are awesome - just the proximity to Busch would be great and the rooms look great. Sheraton is suppose to be open in June and I can see the construction from my office and I think that is iffy buy may want to check out rates at the new Sheraton and have as backup

I toured the Westin Saturday morning and it looks great. Did not see the rooms because they were full Friday night, the Detroit Red Wings stayed there that night. No rooms were cleaned up yet. If the price is right, I dont think you can go wrong. Great location. The breakfast buffet smelled great. Good luck!!
