Help me find the "buttercrunch" candy from my childhood?
 

All through my childhood my mother used to buy me for Valentines Day the most delicious candy. We called it " Buttercrunch" - it was chocolate with hard toffee inside and coated in chopped walnuts. Sometimes she got it at Fanny Farmers, but our favorite was by a company called "Lofts".<BR><BR>Candy stores do sell it because I have bought it for my own children. I am looking to find out from anyone who is real familiar with this candy, where to get the best buttercrunch anywhere. I don't know if it is a regional candy or not. <BR><BR>I can't seem to find buttercrunch that comes close to my childhood memories, but maybe that's because my memories are so sweet.<BR><BR>Thanks for any help. I would love to get it for Valentines Day.

Hi,<BR>Don't know if this site has your brand of candy but www.hometownfavorites.com has an inventory of childhood candies and products from the 50's-80's. I had a lot of fun looking through it to find old favorites such as "Zots".

How 'bout those highly controversal Chocolate Babies? Loved them when I was a kid, but was too young to be aware that it was politically incorrect. I bit the head off first, my brother went for the feet :- )

I haven't had it, but you might want to try Fannie May candies (associated with Fannie Farmer, I believe)at www.fanniemay.com. They have something called buttercrisp, which is desribed as almond buttercrisp with a milk chocolate coating (like a Heath Bar). Personally, I love their dark-chocolate covered marshmallows.

Bonomo Turkish Taffy.<BR>Wow! ..haven't thought about that in a lonnnnng time.<BR><BR>I remember buying it frozen at the movie theater( double feature,of course). We then took the taffy and slameed it against the wall,,,breaking it up in to bite size pieces. It was cheap and lasted a long time.<BR><BR>Does anyone remember the Good and Plenty TV commercials with the "train"?<BR>

Aunt Charlotte's Old-fashioned Candies in Merchantville, NJ has, I believe, just what you're looking for. It's like a trip back in time! (and I just had some at Christmas) Unfortunately, I don't know about their shipping policies, as I have a very convenient cousin in Merchantville who supplies me with my chocolate fixes, but you might want to contact them about shipping some out. I don't believe it's made with walnuts (most I've seen are made with almonds), but See's Candy, on the west coast, makes a superlative buttercrunch. Yes, I've had it, and it's great, made in small batches with good ingredients. They ship.<BR><BR>www.seescandy.com
