Help Me Choose King Tut Chicago Tix
I'll be in CHI over Labor Day weekend, and want to view the King Tut exhibit. I don't really care about the other exhibits in the museum unless someone can tell me which are truly worth seeing--I do not want to spend the entire day in the museum! I cannot figure out which kind of ticket to purchase. I also want the audio tour for Tut. Can any of you native Chicagoans help, or anyone who has viewed Tut there? Thanks!

It will be crowded on a Holiday weekend. Go to the Field Museum web page and you can get the ticket information to buy ahead of time. Google, the Field Museum Chicago. There are separate lines and entrances for Museum proper and Tut exhibit. With the holiday crowds, I think that audio will be available on first come, first serve, but you can at least get your Tut tickets.
Honestly, you sound like you want to be in/out. You aren't going to be on a Holiday weekend. Many other exhibits are well worth seeing, and my kids and I never fail to do the Mummy hall. But all of this takes time. There are 1000s of things like art, baskets, weapons, etc. from MANY different cultures/ eras. I think they even have real Samurai outfits from the Middle Ages- man, were those guys small. There are just too many to list- much is Native American. Honestly, IMHO, the Tut will be crowded and I wouldn't be impatient with your mind in a "list" wanting to do other things. The Field Museum is more than a day without going to Tut, the way I would want to do it. Another memory that comes to mind, is a Hall of Jewelry from Middle East and other ie stone age on eras. |
Thanks JJ5. I guess I want to know about the different 'passes' that are available on line for the Tut exhibit--the descriptions aren't very clear. Do I need a general admission plus the Tut pass? Platinum? Gold? I'm confused!

I just went to the Web Page, I'm sure you would buy the King Tut GOLD Pass Pricing.
Just by reading this description, I can surmise that you will also have included entry into the rest of the Museum/ Sue etc. when you buy this ticket to see Tut. But it looks like you may also need to get a time-punch, depending upon the crowd. And you absolutely would need to get a time-punch for the Evolving Planet if you want to see that exhibit. Sue (dinosaur) is available on this ticket anytime- no time punch. Like I said, it will be crowded and they will only let so many enter as so many leave, thus the time-punching feature. When you get into the lobby it will be obvious. You will go to the Tut line with your Gold Tut Pass, regardless. |
Moondoggie, I agree that the Field does make you search for the admission levels. In addition to Tut, the Museum has two other special exhibits Evolving Planet, which traces life from its beginnings, and Underground Adventure, that gives you a worm's-eye view of the world. All three of the special exhibits are timed-entry.
The basic museum admission for $12 allows you to see all the general exhibits which include Sue (the T-rex) PLUS Evolving Planet. The Gold Pass for $19 gets you into both of the above plus Underground Adventure (but not Tut). The Tut admission for $25 allows you into Tut, the general exhibits and Evolving Planet. The Platinum Pass for $28 gives you general admission plus the three special exhibits. I hope this helps. |
Thank you, citylghts and JJ5--exactly what I need to know. I'll buy the Gold Pass.
