Help. Looking for nice cabin in NC

Hi. I have been searching different places for cabins for a family to stay. I am striking out. Any recommendations for areas that might be good-- don't want party town. Don't want the masses. We want a family getaway in NC Blue Ridge Mountains. Also- please tell me where NOT TO GO!

If you google cabins western NC I think you will get some. Also look for cabins around Bryson City NC, you will find some.
Here is a groupon offer I see come up often==and I think there are others in that area. We like Bryson City a lot--and it has great access to the back part of GSMNP. Good fishing, etc.

Thank you Gretchen. I wanted to also ask about Boone? Is that a good place? Or Banner Elk?

Banner Elk is much quieter than Boone and has good elevation, but sits on somewhat of a plateau, so while you get the high elevation, it may not feel as mountain-y as Boone does. Linville is another nice place that can feel isolated if that's what you want.

To the east of Boone, West Jefferson is a nice area and neat little town, but lower altitude.

If you want really remote, you could look further west to Murphy or around the Sylva/Cullowee area (just don't book something near Western Carolina University).

Where are you coming from?

We will be coming from Black Mountain. We found a place in Bryson, Valle Crucis and Banner Elk. We do want nice scenery. Thanks for the information about the elevation and scenery. We don't want a plateau. Our top things are great scenery and outdoor activities. Brian- great info! Keep it coming.

All the places you mention are nice. One thing about the Bryson City area is access to GSMNP, and particularly to tubing in that part.
Boone, Blowing Rock are great--maybe cabins in the area--probably higher priced, I'd guess. Close to a LOT of shopping and restaurants?
The High Country is wonderful for a vacation--that is Boone, BR and Banner Elk.
I think West Jefferson is really "too low".
Black Mountain is great itself. I may not be understanding this entire vacation if you are coming from there.
And I will say the Bryson City area is in the Culhowee area and we have loved being in that area. Take a look at a map (for the OP).
Boone, etc. is north of Asheville and has its charms. Bryson City is south and west and has its charms.

Great great replies!! We are leaning towards Banner Elk, Boone, Beech Mountain. Those seem to be cooler and at higher elevations. Thank you so much everyone for this great info. I hope others can benefit from it.
