Help - last minute family trip from NJ to anywhere within 6hrs drive
I am stuck with coming up with a last minute family trip - 6 adults, 3 children. Our extended family is visiting for 10 days around Christmas. We were initially looking at Massanutten, VA, but they do not have any availability for our dates.
We are looking for a resort like setting - activities for adults and kids - indoor and outdoor, with condo style accommodation. Someplace where we could spend 4-5 days. We are willing to drive anywhere upto 5-6 hrs. (VA, PA, DE, CT, MA, VT, MD.....)
Wintergreen in VA came up as a suggestion - I'm considering that. Will call them to see if they have anything.
I'm hoping to get lots of ideas, so please let me know your suggestions. They will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

If you are not wedded to skiing, Williamsburg has a lot to offer, both in accommodation and stuff to do since both Richmond and Norfolk-Virginia Beach are within an hour. There is plenty for every interest nearby.

Canaan valley, WV might be nice. Lots of house rentals at Timberline, most modern wood/glass with hot-tubs. There's both downhill and cross-country skiing nearby as well as ice skating, etc. Not tons of fancy restaurants (some) but lots of beauty, fair chance of snow, cozy setting.

Otherwise, the PA snow-belt area around Fallingwater also has both downhill and cross-country trails (plus the house to see for the adults).
Both locations would be fairly easy from PA turnpike.

You might look at the Berkshire mountains in Western Massachusetts, http://www.berkshires.org/
There are ski resorts and a variety of hotels and accommodations. Look at Great Barington, Stockbridge, Lennox. We lived in western Mass years ago and always enjoyed bringing visitors to Stockbridge which has the Norman Rockwell Museum and a very traditional New England look, and is always decorated for Christmas

NJ is about 7H00 from Montreal.Tremblant is 1H30 from Montreal. You will have everything you need there and in some case cheaper than the states.US money is still good (18 to 12 cents per $).Go on www.tremblant.ca and see.In youre trip plan 1 or 2 days in Montreal. A good tip .book apartement instead of hotel room .More convinient and you save on restaurant. You can also practice youre french that you learn in school.Aurevoir, see you ,THE GUY

I don't know about availability, but Stowe VT is a great place for a winter holiday. Check out www.stowe.com for the Stowe Mountain Resort, and www.gostowe.com for lots of other ideas. There's plenty to do there for all age ranges.
