Help - Kapalua Bay or Wailea area?
We are planning to go to Maui for about 6 days so staying only in one location - any advice on if we should stay in Wailea or Kapalua Bay area? Either location we would be staying at Renaissance hotels. We are looking for a nice beach with good snorkeling, relaxing, nice accomodations, and close to restaurants, nightlife, etc.
Thanks. |
Personally, I prefer Wailea - I love the hotels there and the area is just really nice and everything (restaurants & shopping) are easily accessible. But either place will be wonderful - you'll be in paradise!

I would stay in Wailea. They have a gorgeous walk along the ocean and is close by to everything. Kapalua is quite a ways up the Island and the beaches aren't as nice. The weather is always better in Wailea than Kapalua.

Why not split the difference and stay in Kanaapali - they have a nice beach walk to other hotels, great snorkeling and restaurants. It's not as windy as Kapalua - close drive to Lahaina. Kapalua is a bit more "secluded" in that there are not as many hotels to walk to (but the beaches are pretty). It probably depends on what you want. There is a book out called "Hawaii for Dummies" that actually helps you choose the areas that you'll prefer by listing pros and cons.

I've always liked Kapalua. It's closer to Kaanapali and Lahania.

In August, September, October..... I'd stay in Kapalua, because it is usually cooler and breezier up there. Otherwise, Wailea, for sure! Have a wonderful time....

West Maui is great for snorkeling. We loved Honolua Bay and Ollawalu. Here's a link: www.snorkeling-hawaii-insiders-guide.com.

Thanks all for the advice. We are staying at the Renaissance Wailea for a week at the end of April - hoping for good weather. We cannot wait!! Thanks again.
