Let me make sure I understand. If you cover your body in nail polish, nothing will bite you?

seetheworld Apr 14th, 2006 05:10 AM

Would plastic wrap work? ;)

I've been to Virginia. Nothing happened. I'll go back.

We have chiggers in KY! Anything that blocks the air will help stop the itch. ChiggerRid or clear polish stays on longer so will work better than most creams.

My friend got bitten on the face when she was doing work in her garden and I had them on my back and stomach..lying in that damn hammock!
They manage to get on people pretty easily and they can munch on you anywhere!
Nail polish works...believe the Old Wives :D

Or you could become bubble girl if the nail polish/plastic isn't working.

EATEN ALIVE BY MOSQUITOES? BUGS?

Mosquitoes or bugs, I was soothed (itches like crazy...almost scratched till sore..)
BUT I applied this wonderful lotion i bought from www.bloodguardrepellent.com
yeah..WWW.BLOODGUARDREPELLENT.COM

Check it out. Mozzies or bugs, it did me good and healed my rashes too (from dirt/heat/sweat).

Travel costs money and better be well prepared. One way is to be well armed with this lotion (cool feel and very nice 'feel-alive' frangrance').

Good lotions and all-natural ones like BLOODGUARD REPELLENT makes the expensive or cheap trips worth it. helps repel off potentially disease-carrying mozzies/chiggers/bugs.

Got extra bottles? Sell to the tourist traveller who is suffering- give him relief and he/she will be thanking and blessing you for the great holiday (freed from pests) they had.

FUNNY..one has to smell bad or CHEMICAL to keep mozzis away. With BloodGuard repellent, you smell good and your beloved won't stop clinging to you!

Hmmm, that most recent post sounds much more like an ad than someone trying to be of assistance....

GoTravel May 10th, 2006 09:07 AM

seethewordl, what did they end up being? Did you ever find out?

OldSouthernBelle May 10th, 2006 09:07 AM

A home remedy that always worked for us was to add a box of baking soda to your bath water IMMEDIATELY upon return from outdoors.

seetheworld May 10th, 2006 04:25 PM

Where was the advertising when I really needed it, LOL!

GoT, I never found out exactly what it was. All I know is that the itching lasted a good 10 days and I still have bite marks. I think it is safe to say they were not bed bugs.

Last October I was bit by something at the NY Botanical Gardens -- it swelled up really bad and I still have evidence of the bite marks 8 months later.

Sorry Scarlett, I wasn't brave enough to put nail polish on any of the bites -- I scratched too much and was afraid of the burn!

From now own, I plan to travel with bug repellent as it is clear that I experience rather substantial allergic reactions to bug bites (bee stings send me to the ER). Or maybe I should invest in a beekeepers uniform, lol. :D

Once when I was visiting in Jacksonville, I was badly bitten by something called , I think, yellow flies- I had never heard of them, but the bites were even worse than chigger bites. They itched terribly and gave me scars that lasted for a year.

I love Florida, but I don't like the bugs!

Dump a box of Epsom Salts into
a lukewarm bath and soak...get out
and dab Southern Comfort Whiskey on the welts. Then get blind drunk
on Kahlua and Cream.

OldSouthernBelle May 13th, 2006 04:24 PM

I didn't read through all the suggestions, but the one I use the most on ant and mosquitoe bites is something called 'After Bite'. It comes in a little wand type container (alittle wider than a pencil), and you dab some on each bite. Usually one or two reps of this and it no longer itches. By the way, the main ingredient is ammonia...so I have actually taken a swab and achieved the same results (just more smelly).

OldSouthernBelle May 13th, 2006 04:26 PM

Oh yeah, and I have purchased, but not yet tried a bug repellant 'button' you pin on your clothing...anyone tried this yet?

goodfriend May 13th, 2006 10:16 PM

Mosquitoes and blood-sucking bugs did not bite me no more.

Goodfriend here have not been bitten and me and friends have not got bitten when we used the BloodGuard lotion.

Sure ... lots of remedies around and others can keep on recommending this and that but still get bitten

Goodfriend here shared a remedy , one that works ... SO FAR, lotion works very well;
AM HAPPY undisturbed in garden, indoors or TRAVELING (to Asia and Northern Europe soon) 6 bottles of BloodGuard Repellent.

a while back i got a list of other uses for Bounce fabric softener and one was to tie it around your belt loop, supposed mosquitoes hate it.
