Help in La Jolla
I'm so confused!!!!! I thought I had found a good place to stay in La Jolla (Sea Lodge) but I'm getting some very negative responses. Other suggestions? I've read that this area is supposed to be very "up-scale" but all of the hotel references sound like they are just OK.

Much thanks for any feedback and first-hand knowledge.

la valencia is the greatest but quite expensive--the travelodge is cheap and well-located

The only real upscale hotel in the village of La Jolla is the La Valencia and there are many people on this forum who have written negative things about that hotel. I have never stayed at the Sea Lodge but it is ocean front on the very popular La Jolla Shores beach. Even the LV is not oceanfront. I very popular hotel is L'Auberge in Del Mar which is a 10 minute drive North of La Jolla. Del Mar is very nice to stay in and this hotel is short walk to a great beach and many shops/restaurants. You could also save some money and stay in the part of La Jolla that is inland near I-5. That is also about a 10 minute drive to the Village.

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is upscale and right on the ocean next to the Sea Lodge. Do not stay at the Sea Lodge as it not worth the $.

I'd recommend the Grande Colonial - they have winter specials available cheaper on travelocity.com than by calling the hotel.

To check out the hotel, visit
www.grandecolonial.com

The hotel is in the center of La Jolla, about a block from the cove. all restaurants, bars, etc. within walking distance. Excellent for rates around $150 a night.

I'm one of the detractors of La Valencia. Don't waste your $$$. Even their best rooms are mediocre by standards of most major cities in the US.
I'm pretty picky about hotels and couldn't find anything really to my liking in La Jolla.
Sorry to be of no help.
