HELP! I cant decide where to relocate to!!!!

Im a 32 yr old african american looking to relocate me and my family, im currently in Arkansas and hate it and thinking about moving to Texas (maybe fort worth, dallas or houston) or Arizona (phoenix). Im looking for a family orientated place with good schools for my kids. Job wise, my current job doesnt have a location at the mentioned areas so id be starting from scratch. Im currently in the call center field but in school for psychology, so ill have a long term career as a therapist. Looking for any opinions on these areas or even a new location as a suggestion.

If you google there are several web sites specifically for people relocating. They usually provide info on economy, job opportunities, school ratings, housing costs etc.

In all the places you are considering I would look at the climate carefully. I know Arkansas doesn't get a real winter but think it's not nearly as hot a Texas or Arizona.

What are some of the reasons that you hate Arkansas?

Here's a link to one of the websites suggested by nytraveler. Start your research there:, you'll get better info than you will on a travel forum:

Arizona generally does not have good public schools, although it's possible that Phoenix, being the state's wealthiest city by far, may have one or two good school districts.

Arizona public schools seem to fluctuate between 49th and 50th in ranking and the legislature keeps on cutting back funding.

Stay in school and THEN move!

Agree with Dukey, especially since you mention having a family to support. Move when and where you can get a job.

Another "stay in school, get good grades, be well prepared in your field"--then look for a job.

What you you hate about Arkansas?

What draws you to Texas or Arizona?

Other than good schools you really haven't given us anything to go on.

1st goal is to complete school
OF course your realize to have a decent job in psychology, you need a PHd --- Personally, I'd change my major to a field where you can use a BS degree. For example,a Physician Assistant (PA - more than a BS but less than MD) or in the engineering field starting with chemical, electrical, computer science, genetics, etc.
Since crime is an established business, that would be a good degree as well - criminal justice.
Google: best college graduate jobs

When selecting a state, research their income and property tax schedules.

But some of the responses are so entertaining.

Id relocate to the west--maybe Portland or Seattle area. Lots of outdoor stuff to do and the economy is pretty sound
