Help -Grandaughter wants to go to the Pro Bowl
 

Hi All,

The coach of my GD's Cheerleading Team took them to a training camp, where they received a "superior" rating.

They have been invited to attend "The Varsity Pro-Bowl Tour", Feb 5 - 9, sponsored by USA/UCA/UDA.

(United Spirit Association,
Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association)

Cost is estimated at $2500.

Does anyone know who the sponsors are?

Any experience with this sort of thing?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

I thought you meant your GD wanted to go to the pro bowl football play off until I read the posting. Still not certain.

Where is this event?

I have no experience with cheerleaders just football players, mother of two. And I hope (said hope) they didn't have experience with cheerleaders, at least in high school.

How old is your granddaughter? Do you know what "level" she cheers at? (there are 5 levels in all star cheer and then a college level).

I am fimilar with USA. My dd cheered for a number of years at a high level and has competed in various places in the country.

It is a very hectic event, stressful, one thing I always recommend is that the cheerleader get her own room (depending on age - if she is a teen she might be going without a parent and will room with other girls).

Let me know how old she is... you are in the south right? Cheer is big business in those parts!

Ira - I think I understand more of what you are asking.

Dd was going to do this for a game in San Diego one year. Is GD performing during the half time show?

Our gym decided to pass on this - it was costly and with our other travel commitments to competitions it was not something they wanted to ask us to participate in - as it did not "gain" our gym anything.

Might have been fun for dd though.

A word of caution - my dd was injured a lot while cheering. She was very good and her coaches really pushed her beyond what her body could handle. She had three serious injuries and the last one ended her "cheer" career with complete reconstruction of her tendon with a clip. I suppose she could go back but it is just not worth it. She was a flyer - very flexible and the youngest girl on her "level" 5 team at one point. They like them young so they can toss them higher eh?

It is an interesting sport.

Thanks very much for your responses.

All of the family females (and they are not few in number) have decided that this is a great opportunity for GD, that she has worked very hard to get her position on the team, that she has been trying very hard to raise money on her own, and that she deserves to go.

There being no posts saying that the sponsors are cheats and frauds, I have acceded to their command.

What else could I do, being a mere male?

No, it is definately not a scam. USA is a well respected organization in the cheer world.
