Help...for our Honeymoon.
We need some smart tips for our honeymoon. Where to begin...We like to shop and keep busy...I am a fan of "nice" hotels. Can you give us some smart advice for honeymooners. Thanks.
|
OK, so we have 1) a honeymoon, 2) like nice hotels, 3) like to shop.
Well that narrows it down to, oh, maybe about 250 different places I can think of.
Should I list them?
Ummm...Italy, France, Bali, Hawaii, Antigua, Tahiti, NYC, LA, Australia.........................

You need to throw a few more bones, Becka.
Budget?
Warm or cold?
Where have you been before and liked (or didn't)?
|
Take a cruise. Believe me you won't be disappointed or bored.
Go to Grand Cayman Islands either on your own or on a cruise. Great, beautiful place...lots of shopping too.

Your question is fairly broad so I'll just tell you how we approached it.

We intentionally planned on spending the first few days at a nice quiet beach resort. With the activity and stress leading up to the wedding, the last thing we wanted was to spend the first few days of our honeymoon rushing from place to place in a large city. (That was some advice we had received from friends and it turned out to be the right thing for us.)

We also viewed it as a once in a lifetime trip and one of the few times were we could both take off for two straight weeks. We decided to cash in FF miles and went to Asia as we figured that a trip their would be difficult with children.

Your question is rather general and the possible answers can vary significantly when it comes to the time of year and budget.

When planning our honeymoon, we knew we didn't want the beach, and were interested in someplace interesting with nightlife, history, nice architecture, good food, and plenty of things to see and do. We only had a week - I had started a new job about 6 months prior and couldn't take any more time off. We chose New Orleans and had an incredible time.

I can respond simply by sharing our honeymoon experience. We went to Greece and spent two nights in Athens, three in the island of Mykonos, and four in Santorini. Simply put, we found the vacation to be affordable, extremely scenic, and culturally rich. It was easy to find action in terms of shopping, great restaurant and bars. At the same time, the Greek island balanced this with breathtaking beaches, which allowed for the winding down that you'll want to do on your honeymoon.

Sorry for being vague...I thought since this was in the Hawaii section, it would have been noted.
As we have not decided where to go..I have narrowed it down to a warm beach area. My choices are Maui, Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas or Key West.
Maui seems out of "our" price ideas..well his not mine :). So some advice about Hawaii first. Is it possible to go there and get a good deal on a hotel/airfare??
|
Becka there's no Hawaii forum only US. You can limit posts you look at by selecting Hawaii in the search box though.
What time of year is your honeymoon scheduled? Where would your flight originate? Nedd additional info to determine where and how much!

Key West and the Bahamas can get chilly in the winter. I'd cross Atlantis off your list just because.
|
Please take a step back for a moment and cross Key West and the Atlantis Resort off your list. First, Key West can get very very crowded and the beaches are just ok. Second, the Atlantis is way overpriced and I personally would not consider it a nice hotel. Good shopping but again, overpriced. Its also overrun with kids and in my opinion thats not very romantic. Maui is by far your best choice but it can be very expensive to get there. Have you thought about Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the BVI or Aruba. They are all English speaking countries, with great hotels and shopping.

Key West is a great choice!!!!!!!!!! There are wonderful cute little shops there, great galleries, delicious restaurants, interesting tours and museums and great nightlife. The island is full of romance. The sunset is incredible so don't miss taking a sunset cruise (he will want to propose all over again, lol). Fly to Miami or Ft Lauderdale (usually Ft Lauderdale has better prices) and drive to Key West. The water is stunning. The beaches are small but fine. Many of the resorts have private ones. Don't let the beach comments discourage you.

Here is some additional info..
Honeymoon is the 2nd week of June.
We are paying for our wedding and honeymoon ourselves..so the cost is a consideration...my first thoughts were Disney or Hawaii...I like sun :) and we like to keep busy..walking and site-seeing. My fiance isn't crazy about going somewhere non US...so I am trying to incororate somewhere fun, a bit romantic, yet within reason so I don't start my married life in debt forever.
Looking more into Key West, I have heard Wyndham Casa Marina and the Hyatt are good. I would like an Ocean View..and maybe some beach..prices seem reasonable. Anyone stay at the above??
|
Flying from Detroit.
|
Sorry..been busy this morning.
Looks like Key West is out, as it is Gay Pride week there...Any other suggestions for a warm beachy place..on a budget??
|
Gay Pride week is tiny! I would still think about KW.
|
How about another key then like Little Palm Island? A lot of info about romantic keys here is you do a search.
