Help for Girls' Weekend in Fingerlakes, NY
About 6-8 women want to do a "girls' weekend" in the fingerlakes area, renting a car/limo for a winery tour, spend the night somewhere, etc. So I have a lot of questions which I thank you in advance for help:
1. Which area of wineries to tour? 2. Best wineries and why? 3. Best place to stay and why? 4. Any packages someone would know? 5. Recommendations for restaurant for dinner? 6. Recommendations for a tour company for a driver/car/limo? Thanks - I can't wait to see some responses! |
anyone?

Sounds like a great idea to me! We've stayed in Watkins Glen many times (although not in a few years) - in town so we could walk down to the lake, to restaurants. There are several places to stay in town - we always stayed at The Villager - just a motel, nothing special. I know there are some shuttle services/limo's but you'll have to do some research to get contact info.
Seneca Lake has the most wineries and some of my favorites: Lamoreaux Landing, Amberg Cellars, Fox Run, Hazlitt, Herman Wiemer, Prejean, Red Newt, Silver Thread, Lakewood, Shalestone, Standing Stone... and there are lots of new ones. In Nov, we went to the NY Harvest Fest in Albany and tasted dozens of wines and other tasty NY-made treats. There were lots of new wineries. You guys are going to have a great time. |
I don't know anything about the wineries, but Ithaca would offer the most for things to do, restaurant choices, etc. What month do you plan to visit? Skaneatlas is also a nice town. Are you looking for out door activities, hiking, etc.? Are you a group of young women, or older?

thanks! we were thinking sept/oct/nov would be nice.

I'd go in Sept. or October. In October you'll see some nice fall foilage. November is a dreary month weather wise in New York State.

We went there in July for the Finger Lakes Wine Festival and stayed at Watkins Glen. Had a ball!

Early Oct is spectacular - peak foliage. I might avoid the long weekend (Columbus Day?). It's very busy at the wineries.
LLindaC, The wine fest is a blast, isn't it? Haven't been in a few years but went twice in the past. Stayed in Watkins Glen and took the shuttle to and from our hotel. Bought many cases of wine. Lots of fun! |
