help for a multigenerational vacation near Acadia!
 

Hi!
My family consists of myself (35), my parents (60s), and my sister, her husband and my nephew (he'll be 20 months). We would like to rent a house in July somewhere near Acadia National Park and then spend about 2 weeks there exploring the area.
We love the outdoors, but certainly aren't outdoorsmen! Some suggestions for easy hikes and beautiful scenery would be great!
We would love to explore some of the towns in the area, love to go shopping for crafts and see local artisans. And of course some suggestions for good, local restaurants, not too, too expensive would be greatly appreciated!
Can anyone recommend anything? We are in the beginning stages of planning and don't have a lot yet.
Most importantly right now, we are looking for an area to rent a house that is close to the action, but reasonably priced.

If you want a house for two weeks in July, you should have booked about 6 months ago. Probably best to let us know what slim pickings you find still available within 40 miles of Bar Harbor and then maybe ask our opinions on which is best.

In addtion to above...

Bar Harbor/Acadia is basically an island, though sizable, and there is one, busy in summer, road in/out. I love the place, but I don't think there is much shopping available.

If you can find lodging at this point...maybe one week on Mount Desert Island, and I week somewhere in the mid-coast area for more shopping (and still scenic) excursions.

If you can't find aplace in that area, consider mid-coast Maine. We have stayed in Bath and Wiscasset and love exploring the Harpswells. I thin there is more to see and do in that area. easy day trips to pllaces like Camden and Boothbay.

We definitely realize we're a little late in planning. Actually now thinking about spending a few days in the Portland area and/or possibly the White Mountains in New Hampshire and then renting a house for a week near Acadia. We are starting to look hard-core tonight!
