Help - Drive from Olympia, WA to SLC, UT

We're pressed for time on the start of our trip from UT to WA. On the way home, we'd like to stop a few places of interest from Olympia, WA to SLC, UT. Any ideas? We're still planning to drive straight through. We've stopped at Multnomah Falls before in OR.. gorgeous scenery and it was a great place to walk around. Anything like that along the journey that I've been missing? Would love a couple ideas to break up the day for our kids (10,7,4). Even hidden food gems as well. Thanks for your help!!

Depending on the weather, check on the Oregon Trail Interpretive center east of Baker City OR.

I don't understand. You say "We're still planning to drive straight through". Do you intend driving it in one go, or over 2 days?

Olympia to Salt Lake City is 13 hrs "wheels turning" not including stops for gas, restrooms, or eating. If you're going to do it in one go, you won't have much time to stop. The Oregon Trail Interpretive center mentioned above is as good as any - you turn off I-84 at exit 302 just before you get to Baker City OR.

If you just want to stretch your legs, you can stop at the Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area (some oregon trail display and minor hiking opportunities in forests ) near the summit of the Blue Mountains between Pendleton and La Grande.

Or you could wait until Twin Falls and get out to view and walk in Shoshone Falls Park where the Snake River goes over some falls.

It you meant you'd be driving over 2 days, there are lots of recommendations..

You could go via Mt Rainier, or if going via the Columbia River Gorge you could stop at the Maryhill Museum, if for nothing else to take in the view.

Or you could stop in Pendleton to look at some western tack shops or to take the underground tour including the bordello, Chinese jails and the Opium Den. and (

Boise is a great little city. The Raptor Center there is fantastic! Or stop in at the Basque Museum.
