Help! Crazy father taking wife, 9-year-old and 8-month old twins on a trip up CA Coast! Any lodging/dining recommendations?!

I may regret this, but I have done the trip many times as first a bachelor and then a newlywed. Now I am looking for family places. We are taking it slow, so here are my needs:

1.) A place somehwere around Cambria that has nice clean rooms big enough for the five of us...(two queen beds and room for a portable crib.) This night we would like to keep the price down under $200, becuase on the return trip we are staying at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. This place can be as far north as Salinas and as far south as Arroyo Grande.

2.) A place in Carmel or Monterey. We are going to the Aquarium (anybody do this with infant(s)?) We may want to stay at a inexpensive cottage-like lodging in the woods. Or we may want soemhwere on Cannery Row right next to the Aquarium. What do you all think? Again, would like to keep it under $200 if possible.

3.) Any place along the coast in which to dine that would be conducive to bringing in babies? Also up in Muir Woods, where we will eventually be going.

4.) Am I crazy?

Thanks in advance

Alex

Alex - I have twin boys (they're now eight, so a lot easier to travel with) but the thing I remember about them being infants, was how much time it took to get them in and out of the car. While I'm sure your trip will work, it would probably be a lot more relaxing if you just choose one stop and stayed there.

You are probbaly right Barbara. Thank you for your post. Unfortunately. we have to do the stops on Monterey and NOrthern California due to the fact that we are meeting others. We may limit our days however. Congrats on your twins...I have newfound respect for preants of multiples!

For lodging near the Monterey Aquarium, check out availability at Asilomar. It's a conference center, operated by the state, but rents out rooms to individuals as well. The grounds are lovely, and I think you get breakfast in the dining hall along with the rooms. Asilomar also has a very nice, family-type beach.

Alex - Thanks! The twins have been so much fun, along with all the extra work. We only took them on vacation once when they were infants and we rented a motorhome. I keep thinking about the amount of stuff you're going to have to put in your car - hopefully you've got lots of room. I wish you the best of luck - I'm sure you'll make some fun memories.

Try the Quality Suites in San Luis Obispo. Cooked breakfast, happy hour and barbeque each evening. A two room suite with 2 double beds and sofa bed in other room is about $170 The rate goes down in October.
Here's a link.

You will make some wonderful memories, of course you're not crazy!! In Cambria, you may want to check out the Fireside Inn. It is a BW property with a pools ofr your 9 yr.old and a nice jacuzzi for you and your wife to relax in!

The property is right across the street from Moonstone Beach. Some rooms have patios that face the ocean. You will enjoy walking acrss the street to the great walking paths and gorgeous beach there. You older child will enjoy going to the tidepools and looking at the seals on the rocks there.

The Moonstone Bar & Grill is very conducive to families. You could dine outside on the patio.

All the places around Cannery Row are pretty pricey. You might want to consider the BW Beach Resort. Located right on the ocean. Swimming pool, jacuzzi, restaurant, etc. Your oldest would enjoy being right on the beach. It's a short drive to Monterey, tho, around ten minutes or so.

Enjoy your time with your family!! Take a lot of pictures, they grow up so fast. ***kim***
