Help?! Big Sur locals? Need advice asap on when to go to Big Sur...next weekend or wait 'til later?
Well, my question is in the subj heading, I guess! ;-)
We have reservations for next weekend (late Feb 23 at Deetjen's. Never have been,
altho' have done the drive many years ago and stayed once in the park, at Big Sur Lodge. (20 yrs ago almost)
Otherwise, have done short drives is all...
into Big Sur.
Would you wait until late March or April for the best weather...and scenic stuff?
Flowers, etc. Or, is it greening up yet
along the hills there?
Is green now in the Bay area, but I believe the coast sometimes takes longer to 'green up' even here. Old brown grasses from previous year stick around for quite some time.
We have to decide by today...due to cancellation policies. And of course, the weather is a big questionmark at this point...looks like rain might be possible next wknd. But it's just too early to tell.
Looks like temps in upper 50's.
Better to wait. We'll only have Saturday to explore much & during our drive on Friday. Sunday we have to hurry on to Los Angeles for a family event.
Perhaps later we could have an extra day...
darn. What to do?? :-\ (risk of waiting is it just won't happen)
Plus, had hoped to go to Yosemite in late March for hubby's bday...and maybe a quick getaway to Pt Reyes for a night or two.
So, if we don't 'seize' the moment now...
it may not ever happen. Thanks so much!!

Just to clarify...when I mention those other potential wknds...I mean between now & May.
We're both zonked for energy, having been recently sick. (but are now well, just not too energetic)
Had originally hoped to hike lots...
so that might be compromised.
But...
Does anyone know if the waterfalls in area (the few) are going much yet? If not, again...maybe we need to wait until after more rains visit?
Reason I originally booked trip was I knew we had to drive to So Calif anyway this wknd. And I was thinking that just maybe some flowers might be starting around Deetjen's at least?
I saw a photo once of magnolias & fruit trees there. But who knows if they are in bloom yet. :-\
Anyone who is from the area or been before this time of year...please, please share!
Thanks again!

I believe that the waterfall at Limekiln state park is spring fed so it isn't totally dependent on rainfall - or at least recent rainfall. Water tables are important, of course, but we aren't having a drought so that shouldn't be an issue. Of course if there has been recent rain, all the creeks will have more water in them. We went last year in June when there hadn't been significant rain for awhile and the creeks had plenty of water.
