HELP - Best way to get to New York from Boston
 

I am traveling tomorrow from Boston to New York. I want to take the train, but several are sold out coming home on Sunday and the reserved trains are kind of expensive for me. Where I can I drive to that is close to New York, park my car and catch the train into the city. Bridgeport? Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Stamford. It's closer, it's safer and it's nicer.

If you're driving all the way to Fairfield county why not just drive all the way in? It's much easier than you might think. Take the Merritt Parkway (Which will turn into the Hutchinson Pkwy. in New york). Then Take the Cross County parkway to the Henry Hudson. This will put you on the West Side of Manhattan and you can just exit when you are near the Street number you want to be near. It's a very easy drive and I recommend it whether you are going to the East or West side.

I'd also recommend driving right into NYC. If you live in Boston (not the burbs) then you probably have a beaten up car already from parking it on the street. <BR><BR>In NYC there is no resident parking sticker issues. Simply drive around the side streets (not avenues) and you can park anywhere you find a spot. You might have to drive about 15-20 minutes before you get a spot, but I've always had luck. Depending on what neighborhood, the parking situation may be slightly different.<BR><BR>If you are a visitor coming to Boston, there's just about nowhere to park other than a garage. In NYC it's so much easier because they let everybody park pretty much where ever they want. <BR><BR>Garages are also everywhere in NYC, and the rate of the garages compared to parking in Stamford and buying a round trip is probably somewhat close.

Do you need to bring a car? USAir is having a last minute shuttle sale that I believe Delta has matched: $78 each way (cheaper than Amtrak).
