Help and advise please

I'm a 24yr old female looking for a relaxing place to blow away 5 days. I live in Seattle and don't want to spend much more than 7 hours by plane or 10 ours by car traveling each way. I'm also on a very tight budget. Any recommendations for places to go? I will be traveling alone, so safety is also an issue.

Tacoma?

Somewhere along the California coast might be nice.

I'd do rehab, but it's only trendy if you go for 2 days.

Have you been to the Washington Coast? I like it out around Graylands, Wesetport, Ocean Shores, Long Beach, like that. It's about 3 hours from Seattle, down to Olympia, over to Aberdeen.

Fly to San Francisco, rent a car and spend a few nights in SFO and Napa. Driving in SFO is easy even for a guy from Mississippi.

If it was me I would take a float plane to Salt Spring Island, BC and rest for 5 days at The Hastings House. The spa and food is excellent.

But I'm 62 and not 24. SFO is one of the top 5 cities in the US. Stay at The Four Seasons, eat at Gary Danko and Stay at Auberge Du Solei in Napa. Have dinner there and visit St. Helena and Oakville. Have a great trip.

"I'm on a very tight budget".

So we suggest Four Seasons and Gary Danko?

7 hours by plane isn't very limiting within the US -- nearly anywhere a direct flight could go.
When are you going? Weather? Sitting in the sun or relaxing by a fireplace in the mountains sound like more fun?

San Francisco's a great idea. I've done long weekends there out of Seattle many times. Only a 2 hour flight.

bubblywine Feb 20th, 2007 02:54 PM

I'm going mid march. SF is appealing and I have friends near there with whom I could stay.

Warm weather would be nice. Any favorite spots along the coast of Sothern Cali? If I fly I'd rather not rent a car, but I know that that may be unavoidable. I was also thinking about a cabin along the Oregon cost. What about Arizona?

suze Feb 20th, 2007 02:58 PM

sorry I'm no more help, I always go to Mexico or Hawaii myself this time of year!
;-)

Arizona would be a great change of pace for someone from Seattle. Sedona is lovely, but I've never been there in March.

How about somewhere in Baja California? Los Cabos, Loreto....?

being so close to canada, i guess maybe you you'e done that already. If not, take a coastal Amtrak across the border to Vancouver. Beautiful scenery. Take the ferry over to Victoria. Check with a hostel there. The one I sayed in was actually someone's house but had different rooms. I, too was trying alone after a conference in Anacortes, and on a budget. I had a blast.

AirTran is having a 2 day sale right now for travel thru May. Lots of warm weather destinations. Check them out at: http://www.airtran.com/sale/SEA.aspx...&ATT=HTML0

I'm not that familiar with them but Club Med might be a good choice for a single traveler. I'm not for sure how expensive they are though.

Good luck!
