Thanks Jayne and Bailey. I think I'm going with the new itinerary, heading north from Gunnison to Glenwood Springs, instead of east to Canon City/Royal Gorge and Cripple Creek. Saw several comments that Cripple Creek has lost its old charm and Canon City area was very commercial.

Hi Beatle,
Im a little confused on the visit to Moab if you are spending such a short time there. Have you been to the Moab area before? Is the main priority CO?
If you havent visited Moab before, you will be missing a lot of very unique sites and experiences that cannot be done in just a day and a half.
Love CO and its beautiful, but Moab is more unique and has more variety.
Now the debate between UT and CO will probably begin.......

I was wondering about that Dayle. Although we don't have a time frame for getting to Durango, so maybe we'll stay around Moab area a little longer, maybe a later afternoon departure to Durango.

Honestly, you could spend a full week in the Moab area without getting bored. Endless scerery, hiking, mountain biking, 4x4 trips, rafting, horseback riding, rock art......ancient cultures. again, much more variety than all the time you plan to spend in CO.
You may end up treating this as just a scouting trip for the Moab area. Like most first time visitors, you will be planning multiple return trips before you even leave!

Wow, Dayle. No question that Moab offers all that you mention and is a great place to visit, but a bit confused that you say that it offers much more than CO since CO offers all the same along with other activities. Did you have a bad experience in CO or did you just visit the wrong places in CO?

No, not at all. As I said CO is beautiful and I love it. Ive been all over.
Just mainly wondering why the short shrift to Moab and if CO was really the main focus. It sounded to me as if the OP had spent most of their time researching CO and didnt know about everything in Moab.

I'd like to have longer in Moab, but am going to leave a little later on departure day so I can get more time in arches and Canyonland np. From there I'm going to Durango, then Gunnison area, then Glenwood Springs for a couple of days, then to Denver for flight back.

Whether Beatle has been to SW US before or not, after this trip, they will know what an incredible part of the country it is. My guess is they will be returning and will give Utah its proper attention including the big 5 NPs which would be another magical trip in itself. So many great choices, so little time.
