Hearst Castle
Kids are 7 and 5 would they be interested in the Hearst Castle?

I don't think your children will enjoy the Hearst Castle, and you will be stressed out at the end of the tour. The tour guides are very particular. You must not step off certain carpets and runners, you must not fall behind the tour group, etc...

I don't know if they still have it, but when we were there (two years ago) I know there was some sort of family tour offered. I think it was only offered once a day and unfortunately we had reserved ahead of time so we were already locked into tour 1. Our kids were 12 and 10 at the time so old enough not to be too bored. Kids the age of your's would probably not appreciate the regular tours.

I was there in Feb on a tour with a family with 3 kids -- one a baby (maybe 1) and the other two looked 5-7. The baby screamed for most of the tour and the two little ones seemed totally bored. You know the tour takes over an hour?? I would wait till they are older.

I will definitely wait Thanks!

We took our 9 year old to the castle and she loved it, but I don't think she would have enjoyed it at age 5, even 7 would have been pushing it. Depends on the kid, but typical 5 & 7 year olds may be bored pretty quickly with it.

Hello Jodi, I agree with previous posters that your children are probably to young to have a long enough attention span for that type of attraction. I would wait until they are a bit older and then they would appreciate it more. Mom and I were just there about 2 months ago and took a tour for the handicap. It was good in that we had almost a private tour. In some parts we would meet up with another tour "group" and we would stop and listen to their guide. At one point I wanted to step back and take a different look at a particular ceiling. As I stepped backwards, I bumped a piece of furniture and also stepped off the "runner" carpet they had laid down for a particular route. The guide called me right away and let me know I was to stay on the carpet and not get on the furniture. Although he realized it was an accident it was his job to mention it to me. I felt a bit small...........but oh well. I just was more aware for the rest of the tour. It is difficult for children to understand this and you would not enjoy yourselves as well either.
