Well, I don't know about that. My name is Cherie and the French people I know (quite a lot) think it's charming. They might not understand the theory behind U.S. naming practices, but they don't *hate* them.

I'd say go to the social security administration's website for baby names, type in "SSA" "baby names" and it will tell you the top 1000 names for babies in 2008. Disregard the first 50 and then choose something from farther down the list. Definitely avoid Emily,Hannah, Chloe, Emma and Abigail, all very popular. If a boy, forget Noah, Jacob, Michael etc. Also personally I'm sick of Madison, Reily, Bailey, Hailey, Tyler, Taylor etc. etc. but that's just MO.
