Healdsburg or Glen Ellen, Sonoma County
Trying to decide where best to spend our last night in the Wine country. Thinking of staying at the Honor Mansion in Healdsburg or the Gaige House in Glen Ellen. Does anyone have any recommendations.
Thanks |
While the Gaige house looks very nice, there's not a lot to the town of Glen Ellen. Healdsburg, on the other hand, has a plethora of tasting rooms, restaurants and shops within walking distance from the B&Bs and town hotels. Have you considered the Grape Leaf Inn? We had a wonderful experience there- one of the best breakfasts I've ever tasted. Great innkeepers, Richard and Kae-very helpful.

I'll 2nd a great stay at the Grape Leaf Inn last May for 2 nights. Had a fun time in the town of Healdsburg.

Another thing, go to mapquest and map them out. You will see that Grape Leaf is just a couple blocks from the center of town, where Honor Mansion is .7 miles further out.

If you want to walk places, stay in Healdsburg!

Another local for Healdsburg here-
I'm going up this PM to shop at RS Basso before they leave the scene, weep~weep :'( Will meet up with pals for drinks & appetizers at Willi's after-with a toast to Linda & Pam ! ((D)) >:D< R5 |
Great!! Healdsburg it is. I've also reserved a room at the Grape Leaf Inn. What about Cyrus for dinner or do you have other recommendations?
Thanks so much, I really appreciate your input. There are so many places that look nice but its great to hear from people who have actually stayed there and have first hand knowledge. |
Now that the OP has made a decision, can anyone on this thread give me any feedback on staying at Madrona Manor in Healdsburg? I will also eagerly "eavesdrop" on the dining suggestions that are coming. One of the great perks on this board is that the advice benefits all ....we are going in early May. Thanks. :)

The Madrona Manor is an 1890s Queen Anne Victorian. Extensive grounds with flowers, herb garden, pool, etc. Lots of wedding parties there, and quite active for brunch on Sundays. We've stayed in the main house, which was lovely with 4 poster beds, etc. Too far from town to walk, but close to scenic roads that go through the vineyards.

We dined at Cyrus last night and it was amazing from start to finish. Don't leave Headsburg without a meal here, I made reservations about four weeks in advance for a Fri.night. You will need to guarantee your reservation with a credit card, you can book on OpenTable. Cheers! ***kim*** ((#))
