Healdsburg hotels
 

We've been researching a SF/Wine Country trip and think we want to spend a few days in Healdsburg as our home base for wineries, coast, redwoods, bicycling, etc. We don't want to spend an obscene sum on accommodations nor do we want to stay in a faceless chain hotel - we're more the inn/B&B types, and the less Victoriana, the better. Any suggestions?

The Hotel Healdsburg is very nice. It is contemporary in decor, the rooms are very nicely appointed.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Cyrus which was amazing. ***kim*** ((f))

I second the Hotel Healdsburg, but be aware that it's "mod and chic". Huge bathroom with a concrete bathtub and floor to ceiilng shower stall - not my thing. The bed is very comfortable. They have specials.

This is really not your standard hotel, so check out the comments on tripadvisor.com before you book. If it sounds like your cupa tea, go for it. If not, then keep looking.

They have special packages, including a dinner.

The location can't be beat, because you are within walking distance of several very excellent wine tasting rooms. No driving while socko-ed on grape juice, that must be a plus somewhere!

I am staying at the Honor Mansion in Healdburg. I have read and heard wonderful things about it.

Check out www.sonomacountyvacations.com click on vacation rentals, and you will find small apartments and houses that you can rent for the price of a hotel. Very cute and fun places to stay. I think its arranged in order of price and size, so towards the end of the list you'll find vacation rentals that might be just what you are looking for.

Hey jeffpo! Regret that I can't recommend the Hotel Healdsburg! The hotel is great - nice rooms, modern Sweeden meets upscale Asian IKEA but the service is awful! We stayed there in the "innagural" opening and the service was bad; gave them another shot 3 months later; service was worse; gave them another shot 6 months later and the service was still bad! To give them their due, we kept going back because they kept offering us a "deal" to return because of the bad service! But, why bother if it's going to ruin your trip? Honor Mansion is nice, but it is a B&B - get one of the back property luxury rooms if you go. Madronna Manor is nice if you can get a "Schoolhouse Suite." An off the beaten path B&B which you might like is called "Villa Messina." They may be calling it "Villa Bella Messina" now. But it is wonderful - the rooms are like a B&B (but more luxurious) but the owners are just great! As for an "obscene sum?" Well, in Healdsburg and most of Wine Country, obscene is a relative term - when the Marriott (Lodge at Sonoma) is $399; the Sonoma Mission Inn is $499; the Hotel Healdsburg is $799 for a suite; and these are average prices? what can one expect when the Le Mars in Healdsburg charges you $1000 or more? As for restaurants - many in Healdsburg are great! Charcuterie, Ravenous, Dry Creek Kitchen (on a good day, great; on a bad day, bleech!). Don't mean to be critical, but want you to have a great experience and give you the truth!

Definitely the Honor Mansion -- we have stayed in the Pool Suite and loved it. Great breakfasts and cocktail hours, not to mention poolside massages. We are going back in May to stay in the Tower Suite, and can't wait!

Restaurants: Willi's (more casual; delicious seafood) and Cyrus (can't wait for this one! very upscale and supposedly as delicious as French Laundry). Enjoy!

If you are looking for a less expensive option, check out Healdsburg Country Gardens. They have weddings there, but have a small cabin and a couple of houses on the property for rental at reasonable rates. www.hcountrygardens.com
The property is beautiful, quiet, peaceful - great views. 1 mile from center of town.
