Healdsburg area groceries and wine?

Renting a house in the area for the next several days. For any of you who know the area -- where is the best place to buy fish and meat? We will likely be cooking in mostly. Also, I know there are a million wineries in the area, but they will all sell their wine at full retail (so as not to compete with their distributors). Are there any good general wine shops that offer decent prices?

Thanks!

There's a Safeway right in Healdsburg. They have a great wine selection, and you can get better deals there than some of the wineries themselves, but don't let that deter you from visiting some of the great wineries in the area. ((b))

No, I absolutely intend to visit the wineries. I just don't want to pay full retail there when they are happy to sell their wine at wholesale to others who will sell it for less!

Also needed: any good bakeries in the area?

I'd check out Big John's market on the corner of Healdsburg Ave. and Dry Creek. Its upscale with very good meat. Also Ansteads in the center of town. Great organic selections. Its hard to find a great selection of fish here..the farmer's market in Windsor on Sunday morning has a fish man with a great selection. Do go to the farmer's market in Hbg. on Sat morn too. Bakery..the Downtown Creamery on the square sells things at 1/2 price at 4/30 M-Thurs. Wineries give case discounts..but prices are generally the same as in stores. What is a bargan is to buy those wines whose production is limited and therefore only sold at the winery itself. I'd check out Preston in Dry Creek..one of my favorites. Enjoy your stay here.
