Healdsberg accomadations
We are going to be in Sonoma for 2 nights in March. I am looking at booking Honor Mansion, Grape Leaf Inn or alittle further away Occidental Inn. Has anyone stayed at any of these places and what do you recommend. Thanks

We stayed at Honor Mansion last July for my birthday and it was unbelieveable! They have the best rooms in the area. The beds are comfy and in fabulous linen. Take a picture when you first arrive because they take all the very ornate and decorative (and expensive) coverings away after the first night. They leave a basket of biscotti and goodies with coffee and tea in a basket on your doorstep in the AM and then serve a really good breakfast buffet that you can choose where to eat. I wish they would do a receipe book of there breakfast entree's. One day it was a fluffy egg dish and the other a modified eggs benedict. The ham bacon or sausage is alway on the side so if you are a veggie person you can enjoy it all. Of course there is fresh juice and fruit also. The eveing wine is wonderful too. We had a cottage that had a wonderful back patio that we acutally had a take out dinner from "big John's" one night. It also has a huge hot tub for two with all the spa products you could want. The inside shower had dual heads and again very nice products to make for a very relaxing stay. You would love it.

almost forgot. When we arrived there was a beautiful birthday cake already in the room and wine. We stayed in Vineyard suite I and would return again.

I stayed at Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza in October and it was very nice. I wanted to try the Honor Mansion, but they have a two night minimum and we were staying one night. If it's in your budget, I can't say enough good things about dinner at Cyrus (see my trip report). Have a great time! |

<i>tick....tick....tick....</i> There is a certain poster that nearly always will post to a thread about Healdsburg, town of Sonoma, some cities in Napa, Portland & Astoria, OR threads. The info is always the same and offers little of substance or assistance about the original question. It always goes something like <i>" We had a great time in (insert locale) and hope to be there again soon. </i> or,<i> "The food at (insert a trendy or once trendy restaurant, even if it is now closed)is ***yummy***</i> and even <i>"(Insert name of lodging) is a gorgeous property " </i> Our dear Kal is just noting that said poster will zero in and be here ***momentarily*** to tell you where THEY stayed, THEY ate, THEY _____... On occasion, they will claim to have stayed/dined/toured a place you are considering... Well, now you all get the picture. :-D Would love to help with lodging in Healdsburg, yet I live in Sonoma County, so we don't often see the hotels unless friends are staying. R5 |
R5 - oh god, I hope my post wasn't a tick, tick, tick! It really wasn't helpful, but since cparris is looking to stay in an upscale place, I wanted to mention Cyrus. I SWEAR that we ate there in October!
Now I have to go back to my posts looking for info about wine country. I wonder if tick answered any of my questions? |
Well, I *always* post to Healdsburg extolling the virtues of Madrona Manor, where we stayed in both May of '07 and June of '08.....We loved it and the only reason I did not post this time---well, up till now---is that cparris was not asking for suggestions on where to stay! :)

We stayed at Madrona Manor Manor a few years ago and loved it. Wedding going on during visit made it a little loud on arrival, but the rooms were beautiful and breakfast was great.

beachbum, one can only hope the MIA trend continues... :-D I must mention, it is cold here today in my nook of Sonoma County, well, for us...it's around 3:30P and we peaked at around 50 degrees. Tonight we are looking for clear skies and 30 degrees. Going out now to bring in more wood for the fireplace. At 6:00PM, we'll bundle up and walk downtown to watch the the boat parade. All the boats come up the Petaluma River decorated in lights..quite a festive celebration to mark the season. R5 |
R5 - the boat parade sounds beautiful. I just came home and there are wet snow flurries outside - yuch!!

my wife and I stayed at the Grape Leaf and absolutely loved it! Great rooms and staff. Nightly wine tastings in their cellar. Very, very good breakfasts (a little more "gourmet" than what you typically get).
Also, just a short walk from the square. |
Hubby and I stayed at the Honor Mansion in May of this year.
The amentities, including the breakfasts, wine and cookies were excellent. The wine tasting each evening was alot of fun and the staff was cooperative. On the negative side The owners noticeably avoided contact with the guests. The Inn is located on a VERY busy street. We could hear the highway (101) in the morning from our room, the Squires Cottage and while sitting outside sipping our wine you can hear the cars and trucks whizzing by. Overall, I thought it was a bit expensive for what you actually get. The next time I would stay at the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza. |
Sorry but the place that I am thinking of that I would try the next time would be the Hotel Healdsburg.
The Dry Creek Kitchen Restaurant is located on the first floor of this hotel. |
Oh I guess I'm the tick tick tick girl. I have stayed in Healdsburg 3 times so what else am I supposed to say and share except what I experienced? I think the Honor Mansion looks lovely, but they have had some mixed reviews lately...they changed the breakfast to a buffet and evidently some don't like it. The Grape Leaf Inn was GREAT and I loved the owners. Best breakfast I've ever had and the location was better than the Honor Mansion for walking into town. Or staggering. You can spend an entire day hitting tasting rooms, shops, restaurants, etc. GREAT town. We also liked the Camellia Inn...not as fancy but a good bargain and nice folks. March is a great time to go- very quiet; you'll probably meet many of the owners and winemakers.

Thanks, I will look into the Grape Leaf again and the Hotel Healdberg. It is nice to be able to walk into town. Is the Grape leaf also on a very busy road...or is it quieter?? The Dry Creek Restrauant sounds good...is it difficult to get a reservation? Where else do you like to eat?? Thanks.

Agree with Honor Mansion as the place to stay. As well as Cyrus as The place to eat. Better than French Laundry in Napa!
We also took a wine tour with a gentleman named David Rasmussen of Eclectic Tour. He took photographs throughout our day and sent us a CD of the memories as well as knowing the smaller boutique wineries that we would never have found. Have a great time! Bowlerhat |
We have dined at Cyrus twice, it is a truly amazing place! The Hotel Healdsburg is very nice, we had a room with a balcony and a 6' soaking tub. Great breakfast in the am and friendly staff here. Dinner for 2 at Dry Creek Kitchen was included with our room, we did the tasting menu, everything was wonderful. :)

I finally booked at the Honor Mansion partly because they have a special rate for when I will be there...stay one nights in a suite and get the second night free. They also will call a month ahead of time and get a reservation at Cyrus so thats good. They were very nice on the phone so hopefully it will be a great time. Thanks for all the help. Any recommendations for another dinner besides Cyrus...doesn't need to be fancy just yummy.

Healdsburg Inn... a B&B...was terrific when my bride and I stayed there a few years ago. The bed was so comfortable that I purchased a like mattress set as a Christmas gift to my wife that year. The breakfasts were wonderful.

Yes, the Grape Leaf is on a quieter street than the Honor.
I love Willi's Seafood. We booked our reservations on opentable.com before we left town! Been there three times and LOVE LOVE it! I have not done Cyrus. I don't know, I'm kind of weird about spending that much since I don't eat meat (a little seafood) but we did like Dry Creek Kitchen. We ate at Auberge du Soleil in napa, but did it at lunch. It was still over $150 and not worth it, IMO. |
