Heads Up if You're Flying NW Airline this Week

Earlier today, Northwest flight attendants voted against a tentative contract. A plan called CHAOS by the flight attendants union -- organized, but unannounced, work disruptions could go into effect almost immediately.

Due to federally mandated minimums for the number of attendants that a flight must carry this could be quite serious. Word is that Northwest does not have a pool of reserve flight attendants to fill in for those who refuse to work.

If you are planning to fly NW this week, take a good book and allow a lot of time. It could get "chaotic".

we ar e fly northwest next week I hope that it does not ruin our trip. What happens if the flight attdenents strick? Do we lose our money we pay for the tickets or does the airport try to find us another flight. We leave Omaha fly to Mempis and then to san antonio.

If the FAs call in sick for your flight, then NW has no choice but cancel your flight. They'll reschedule you on their later flights, or on another carrier. With load factors around 85% on most carriers these days, it may take a while before they can find you the alternative. But they'll get you there, as long as you still want to go.

If thing happens, you should call NW instead of relying on the airport agents. In stations like OMA, there may be just 2-3 NW agents handling the flights, and they may be dozens of you trying to rescheduled. Have NW's number ready.

Also, try not to check luggage if possible. Much easier to reschedule you on other carriers without having to look for your checked bags in the back.
