There is a brand called Whalers:

Ummm...made in New Zealand "blended in the true Hawaiian style"??? Interesting, inasmuch as there hasn't been any rum production here in the islands for decades.

Saw a newspaper article recently that a rum factory was due to start production on Maui this month (yay!). 8-)

Hana Bay Rum

Neither Hana Bay or Whalers are distilled in HI. Kolani Distillers has begun production in Pa`ia, and the distillers of Hana Bay rum will be shipping raw rum to Kolani for finishing and bottling.

DH tells me stories about when there was a distillery on Maui and as a young man he would go over in the afternoon to pack boxes and load trucks and they would pay him in rum.

It is surprising to me that there is no Hawaiian rum because usually areas that produce cane sugar have rum distilleries ala the Carib. Does anyone know why Hawaii ceased rum pruduction?
