Hawaiian Music Calendar

Hi all,
Just moved to Oahu. Wondering if any locals could tell me good sources for community events, Hawaiian music events, etc...Oh yeah I need a driving school, any ideas?

Tell you what I already know
Community events: gohawaii, local library, continuing education classes at different highschools. Where else can I go for hiking clubs, kayak clubs, etc..

Hawaiian Music: mele.com (concert section), go hawaii. Know Genoa Keawe Thurs 6pm Marriott, Jerry Santos Hilton, Chais Bistro, Native books venues. Wondering if Dennis Kamakahi, Keali Reichel have more regular gigs or if I need to wait for concert date?

Driving lessons: know Yellow book but any suggestions?

"Honolulu Weekly" (it's free, you can find it next to most newspaper stands) usually has a lot of info on goings-on, clubs, hiking, etc., in the community. It's geared towards the younger (and dare I say "hipper"?) crowd.

Here is the events calendar at my mall:

We have live local music almost every night. We also have a lot of big events, like the July 3 Fireworks, First Fashion Fridays, stuff like that.

You should also subscribe to either the Star Bulletin or Advertiser, and get their emails online as well.

Here's the Sierra Club for hiking:

Honolulu Advertiser, Friday edition, has a TGIF section which lists events. You can also go to their site:

www.honoluluadvertiser.com
Click on: Entertainment
Click on: TGIF Weekend Calendar

They usually update it on Fridays.

You should get a MidWeek newspaper (or two) in the mail (free, usually Monday & Friday). The weekend edition has a schedule of events & entertainment. It also has some hiking events.

You can also find some info on their site:

www.midweek.com

They also have a Waikiki edition that is free & can be found in some news stands in Waikiki.

Thanks everyone this is a great help! bennyb, always important to find the hipper group....I fall short on the younger part though :( ...LOL

Dusty thank you too! Here 3 weeks and not a single hike yet! Well, walk on Kailua beach last night. It was GREAT!
Reminded me of the beauty that pulled me here.

MelissaHI so glad you came on. Did not know that about the online subscriptions with the local papers for events.

FYI I start Hawaiian language at the local high school this week, continuing adult education classes. IT WAS $10 for 2, 3hour weekly sessions for 2 months. IT WAS $10, HOW GROOVY IS THAT!
