Hawaiian Hotels/Cottages with Charm??
 

Looking to go to Hawaii next year, either Maui or the Big Island.<BR><BR>Are there any quaint huts or cottages with some charm/character to stay in rather than high-rise hotels? Maybe something with thatched roofs? <BR><BR>I found Kona Village on the net and it looks fabulous, BUT it includes meals which they seem a little too proud of (very pricey).<BR><BR>Thanks.<BR>

We stayed at a great cottage on the Big Island two years ago. The website is hawaii4two.com. It is located on a coffee plantation, lovely place, great owners. It is a little off the beaten track, so you have a bit of a drive to go anywhere, but we loved the Hawaiian feel of it - and the get-away-from-it-all feel.

Mama's Fish House cottages look better online than they are in person. We were scheduled to stay there for a week, but left after one night. The skylight over the bed was leaking on us from the rain, there were spiders and webs all over the place as well as geckos running throughout the cottage. Also, we were promised a BBQ which never materialized, and there weren't enough parking spaces. We left the next morning and stayed in Kaanapali at the Marriott.

We have stayed at the Holualoa Inn which is on a Coffee plantation above Kona. This is a large house that has been turned into a B&amp;B. Traditional old hawaiian style with dark hawaiian wood and walls that slide to open the house to the breezes. The view is spectacular, wonderful pool and great breakfast. You can find it at Holualoainn.com. We stayed in the Hibiscus room. Can't wait to go back.

Loved my beach cottage at the Hotel Hana Maui. Not inexpensive, but you have your own hot tub on the deck overlooking the ocean. Romantic, secluded and perfect!

I will second the Holualoa. My question is the Jacaranda Inn looked enticing. Has anyone stayed there? Also, I've never seen it but Silver Cloud on Maui is supposed to be nice.

Thanks for the replies. I'd like to find something hut- or cottage-like on the beach. Don't know if such an accommodation exists.

She is a travel agent. When I was planning a trip and looking for beachfront condo....she was only one that got me what I really wanted.....the others just sell you anything!
