Hawaiian airfare/airtravel question: when did this get so pricey?
Hello,
It's been a couple of years since we flew to Hawaii from our home airport of SFO. Seems like fares are now $770 and up, and even higher for non-stop or good flight times (no red eyes). Is this what fares are like now?
We have not flown Hawaiian Airlines before, but their flights are much cheaper out of SJC. This saves us over $200 per person. Seems like a no brainer, but any catch here?
Thank you,
BMarieL

I *love* Hawaiian Air, it's my favorite airline regardless of ticket prices. If you are looking for travel now, you're hitting summer/vacation prices I think. I have always gone in months like Nov or Jan for as little as ~$350 from Seattle. I priced a ticket for travel in the next couple months and couldn't find anything less than about $750! Yikes!

Thanks all! We're taking the Hawaiian Airlines nonstops SJC-OGG, which are only offered on a couple of days out of the week, and then only one a day. Not as inexpensive as the $380 above, thanks 1JAR, I checked that out. Those flights would be super if we were able to fly on other days of the week, though. We signed up for HawaiianMiles, hoping someday to fly there on miles! Can't wait for our first trip to Maui -- but it's not till October!

Bought two tickets to Kauai in March for flight on May 20.
Fly out of San Jose and return flight is into Oakland.
$819 total for both tickets..
Great Deal found on Kayak and then went to Alaska Air and checked box for willing to fly out of, or into nearby airports. Bought from Alaska.
Aloha !

hawaiian is the best but all airfares have gone up considerably. flew last year to hawaii for under $500.00 SFo to KON thru HNL but now the prices are %640.00 from SFO just to HNL..could be it is high season in january. Glad i booked my Jan 2013 flight already before prices went up. Tomsd hit it on the nose...fewer flight, higher fuel..Alaska doesn't work for me - out of SFO one has to go through Seattle and getting to SJC is not good for me as I can take cab to SFO for arond $30.00 or get a friend to drive. ahhh I long for the cheap competitive airfare wars!
