Although the place martym links to looks very nice, it is not a great location if you don't have much time in Hawaii. It would be a terrible location from which to visit Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park. Far too much driving. It is fairly isolated

That's why I suggested (maybe on another blog?) to first try to fly into Hilo and then up to the Volcano for a day or two - and then make your way over to Kona, and fly out of Kona.
