Hawaii with kids, 7 & 10.

What island and hotels do you recommend to stay for a week with children.

We went to Maui and did the down hill bike tour, my 8 year old loved it.

She also loved the Polynesian Cultural Center and Maritime Museum on Oahu.

She wasn't wild about the night time cruise and complained about not getting to swim enough in the ocean.

With only 7 days, I'd only visit two islands max. It takes quite a bit out of your day to drive to airport, fly out, get rental car, go to new hotel then reverse.

Food is unusual, don't take the kids to too many Luau's.

Maui-Grand Wailea or Hyatt

Well I bet all the islands are great for kids. Our kids happen to like Maui.

By the way, I would not stay in a hotel.
Condos have much more room. You could probably rent a 2 Bedroom condo cheaper than staying in the hotel and you have a full kitchen and washer/dryer. But you have to make your own bed...so what!

The kids enjoyed having their own space with their own TV at night. And the main living area stayed a lot neater!

We usually stay in Kihei because the beaches are nice, and the rates are cheaper.

Have a good trip.

Don't know your budget but I would certainly look into the Kea Lani as their rooms are suites, and you get a micro, bar frig, coffemaker, 2 tvs, VCR...lovely accomocations.

Last year, my kids(then 12 and 14) stayed at the Mana Kai condos in South Kihei. Nice condo, right on a fabulous beach (Keeawakapu) which was perfect for swimming and had a rocky area for snorkeling. From what we saw, I think some of the best beaches in Kihei and Wailea, especially for younger children. You might want to avoid Big Beach in Makena - huge waves the day we were there. My son(14)and his friend loved it,but my daughter was terrified.
This year, we're planning to go to Kaanapali to be closer to Lahaina and to be within walking distance of more restaurants.
