What times of the year is Hawaii more or less expensive?

It's more or less expensive all the time but that word is relative, anyway.

It can certainly be less <b>crowded</b> in August and perhaps some hotel rpices are lower. None of the <b>other</b> prices will be I suspect...but it is worth the trip IMO.

October and November were &quot;reasonable&quot; this past year.

I don't think that's true about August. Summer is part of high season as it is so popular with families. I've been in August and there were no breaks on lodging or anything else.

I have heard that there isn't much of a low season, but that November is less touristed and less expensive.

You could probably figure this out just by looking at a hotel's website and seeing if there is a time of the year when rates are lower.

I've found May thru early June and October thru early November to be good months to consistently find deals. Although I've also found that deals can be had nearly all year with due diligence. My upcoming trip in February is shaping up to be my cheapest yet, and that's during whale watching season so....

In my experience annahead has it right. It depends on the island, e.g. on the BI you're more likely to find discounts from mid-October (immediately after Ironman) until Thanksgiving. Prices used to drop again after the Christmas/New Year's rush, but an increasing number of properties are keeping these high season rates for the snowbirds, all the way until March, April or even May.

Usually prices drop after the holiday in January, and February. My brother-in-law just came back from HI and spent about $4000 for fare, hotel and rental care for a family of 6. I don't think you can beat that deal so maybe right now is a good time.

I had always heard October/November, as long as you're before Thanksgiving, and Spring can be good if you steer clear of spring break times. These are also the times when you can get your best prices using &quot;package deals&quot; from websites like Expedia, or places like Costco, etc.

on a related note, I believe prices are typically cheaper on the Big Island and Oahu than on Maui, which tends to be the most expensive.

Which island? And where are you coming from? I can get real cheap airfare Seattle/Honolulu in January and February.

As far as expense after you arrive, it's not (imo) about time of year rather what you choose to see and do, where you eat, where you stay when you are there that most dramatically effects how much it costs.

We've been twice and both times we went late May early June. It was less crowded as well and seemed reasonable by Hawaii standards. Have fun!

In '06 July was the busiest month followed by August then June.

Slowest months were Sept and Oct followed by Feb (with a big increase in March) with May and April getting increasingly busy.

Dec. can be okay as long as it's before Christmas week but the news just announced that the Hawaii tourism board is trying to plan more events during the whole month of Dec prior to Christmas to attract more tourists. I heard that when I was on Oahu 1 1/2 weeks ago. Hope this helps.
