Hawaii - Pronunciation question

Can anyone (preferably from Hawaii) tell me how to pronounce "Keauhou" (as in Keauhou Bay)

Thx for any help

Correct pronunciation is "Kay-ow-hoe", slight emphasis on the first syllable.

Lazy local pronunciation would be more like "Kay-a-hoe"

It took a couple times to get it right - waaaay back when - and I always remembered - Way to Go - and they substitute Kay ah - and you're good to go. :)

on that same note CHEPAR we stay at a wonderful condo right on the water on kauai.... Makahuena ...but have no idea how to say it. I'm pretty good with pronouncing hawaiian names but this one stumps me. Any help

That one is pretty much as it is spelled - Ma-ka-hoo-e (short e sound) -na.

gary - I figure you're referring to this:

Actually, if you removed the 3rd "n" and the "h" at the end of your spelling, you would have a passably fake Hawaiian word.
