True, but the point is why would she ever eat at the hotel? (I never ever eat at a hotel restaurant unless it's included in my stay. I won't spend $24.95 on a hotel buffet when I can walk out the front door and have breakfast for $5.95!).

That's one of the benefits of staying in a place like Waikiki where it's easy to walk to cheaper dining options, vs staying in a more isolated hotel or resort area.

Marginal, That's exactly the point I was trying to make.

You (anyone, any age) can pick up a nice picnic lunch from the ABC store, for example, a sandwich, cut up fruit, a beverage really reasonable ($5-7). There's loads of places with breakfast specials (again $5-7). For dinner you can get huge, fresh, wonderful local-style food at the Food Courts or Korean BBQ places ($8-12). Even throwing in a snack or ice cream, etc. you're only at $30 per day per person.

There was a time I would have never considered Maui without a car. And then I read a trip report that blew me away. It was a few years ago, and it was the most satisfying happy fulfilled trip report. It was pure bliss.

If you decide Maui might be to your liking and base yourself near a town/beach, well travelling on the shuttles wouldn't suck.

Spam musubi is what I'm thinking; tasty, filling, buy it almost anywhere, perfect on-the-go food. And it's cheap.

The other thing I'm thinking is that our collective legs are being pulled.

I don't know why you would post that last sentence, 22tango.

sf7307 Sep 17th, 2012 01:07 PM

Me either - what does it mean?

22tango Sep 17th, 2012 01:55 PM

Google anything with "Hawaii" as one of the search words and see if Fodor's shows up on the list of results. But maybe I'm just overly suspicious. Carry on....

sf7307 Sep 17th, 2012 03:06 PM

I still don't know what that means, despite the "explanation".

suze Sep 17th, 2012 03:15 PM

I'm pretty sure 22tango was implying that this is a "troll" post. I'm still not sure why though.

Marginal Sep 17th, 2012 03:45 PM

Well I don't get it either......
