Hawaii or Venice for a Honeymoon?

VENICE! (Italy I presume) October is the perfect time to visit Venice. It is the most romantic and glorious place in the world, bar none. What could compare to Piazza San Marco, The Grand Canal, the food, the gondolas, the people. No comparison, no place like it. Ciao. (no it's not Leone).

Carrie, I thought the "rule of thumb" was "Propose in Venice-Honeymoon in Hawaii"?<BR><BR>I assume you mean Venice, Italy and not California?<BR><BR>Been to all 3 places and you can't go wrong with either the Italian or Hawaiian locations. <BR><BR>We did Venice in Oct.'00 and the weather was nice and other than when a cruise ship came in, it wasn't too crowded, especially when you take a walk across Piazza San Marco late at night in a gentle mist while some jazz bands are playing in the background. <BR><BR>But, Kauai for a h'moon is also hard to beat.<BR><BR>Good luck either way.<BR>Ciao bella and Mahalo,<BR>Kal

What a choice! I'm torn but slightly leaning toward Venice. There's nowhere else like it on earth. Something about Italy, and being in a place filled with beautiful things, wonderful food and wine, very, very romantic. But don't scratch Hawaii off permanently, maybe first anniversary?

For our honeymoon we chose Hawaii over Italy - with the agreement that Italy would be a first anniversary trip.<BR><BR>Every bride/groom we spoke with referenced their incredible desire to "collapse" and "do nothing" for a few days after the wedding. To us, this didn't equate with the obligation to tour in a foreign locale.<BR><BR>Also, accomodations on Hawaii seemed to be at a much higher level than those places we checked out in Europe. And when does the quality of your room matter more than when you are honeymooning??<BR><BR>The one thing we did consider was a trip to Italy that would include Capri or Lake Como where we could relax in the sun for a few days before engaging in more rigorous city activities. But long story short, we figured we'd prefer a splurge of a beach location and to do our (relatively cheaper) touring later.

I can't believe this is even a toss up! How can you compare Venice to Hawaii? I go to Hawaii to kick back and relax, yes it's roantic but it's not even close to Venice! Culture, history, romance, etc. <BR><BR>VENICE! go to Hawaii for a long weekend!

What would you prefer for a honeymoon - relaxing on a beach or touring and seeing sights. We would love to go back to Europe, but chose Hawaii for our honeymoon simply to relax and enjoy each other. Whenever we go to Europe, there's so much to see and do that we run ourselves ragged and need a vacation when we return. <BR><BR>Enjoy wherever you decide on - they are both wonderful places in each their own way.

Where do you live? If you're on the west coast, hopping over to Hawaii for your 1st anniversary isn't a big deal. <BR><BR>Personally I think Italy is the most romantic place I've ever seen. Venice is actually quite an easy city to relax in. No need for a car and you can just wander around on foot. And the food - oh such delicious Italian food, which will taste even better after all of those pre-wedding months of dieting!<BR><BR>So often couples plan on a romantic European trip for their first anniversary, but never make it there. Saving for a down payment, career changes, children...all reasons why you should jump on the opportunity to travel now.

Kelly, ain't that the truth! Went to Europe before I got married, and then didn't get a chance to go again until we'd been married 10 years! There's the down payment to save for, then the babies come along, then you have to wait for the babies to be old enough to travel to Europe. And then it's a different trip with the kids, still wonderful, but not like a honeymoon in Venice! Carpe diem and go to Venice.

Do you want to see man made items of beauty or nature at it's most beautiful?<BR>Venice is spectacular in its sites, culture, canals, romantic gondollas. But you will be tempted to hop on a train and explore other cities. Hawaii is relaxed with beautiful waterfalls, private coves and gardens to explore. But again, you will be tempted to explore other islands.<BR>With Venice, it will be good for you to learn some Italian. I don't know with the stress of the wedding, will you be up for that. But, you can't beat the evening strolls. With Hawaii, no money conversion problems and the only language you need to learn is Aloha and Mahalo.<BR>Good Luck with your choice Carrie :)
